  1. I am a single struggling mom of a very athletic, smart and talented young man that is 10. My son is a Junior Olympic record holder for the 800m, 2 time football all-star and a well mannered young man. Our day starts very early and finishes late. Throughout the school year we start the day off with a family breakfast enroute to school and work. I work as an at-risk school counselor in the heart of WATTS/LA Projects. I deal with high school students that would rather be in a juvenile hall center than to be at school or at home. Each day I give all my energy to each of my students in efforts to motivate them to get their life together and graduate from high school. In hopes that they will become positive citizens in our society. After a long day of work, I return to pick up the joy of my life from school and he is still full of energy. We share our bright spots from our day and give each other hugs and high fives. We grab a quick snack and we are off to either football practice, track practice, basketball practice or a parent meeting. Once all of his activities are done for each evening we attack homework and begin planning for the next day. This year was pretty tough for us financially and physically for my son. He went through a huge growth spurt that has brought about a great deal of pain to his body as an athlete. So the entire summer we have been going to many doctors and physical therapy appointments to help him get his body back to normal. It saddens me to see him in so much pain, but continues to fight through it no matter what. This type of dedication inspires me to be the best single mom I can for him. Because we all want the best for our kids. My non-profit was based behind my passion for my son and helping others achieve their best.
