Behind The Scenes at the Dole “Preserving Paradise” 2012 Rose Parade Float

It’s a quintessential Los Angeles event, but I have still never been to the Tournament of Roses Parade. Oh sure, I’ve joined the millions of people all over the world who watch on TV as the annual parade marches down Colorado Blvd. in Pasadena and wondered just how many flowers are on those floats! But I have never sat in the bleachers and waved to the cameras as the floats and drill teams passed by. This year, I got the …

LAX Modernization in Progress: Villaraigosa’s Legacy in the Making

LAX is undergoing a major renovation and modernization, and when it’s all finished, you won’t even recognize it. You might be tempted to call it a facelift, given the fact that we’re in LA, but I would caution you not to; this is no cosmetic procedure. We are talking about a $4.1 billion construction project, many years in the making, and none of it financed with City money. I got to see behind the scenes recently at the invitation of …

Should You Travel to Maui with Kids?

Yes!  Absolutely!  This past August, my husband and I decided to take a last minute trip to Hawaii. We landed a package on CostCo Travel (great deals) for 9 days in a split vacation to Maui with an inner island transfer to Waikiki.  We actually took the trip with our 6-year-old daughter. For some time we had wondered if taking her would be a good idea. We were unsure if it would be fun enough for her since she did …

Los Angeles Airport (LAX) – Major Renovations Planned

Show of hands: who among us hasn’t trudged through Los Angeles International Airport, grimacing at the outdated and grimy interior design? I know I have. Every time I get close to thinking that LAX — utilitarian at best, ugly at worse — is acceptable as a major travel destination’s hub for getting from one place to another, I travel to Portland, or Seattle, or Phoenix…and see how terrific an airport really could be. Then I spiral back into my dark …

Thoughts on the Los Angeles Travel & Adventure Show

I’m an LA mom, but I’m also a travel blogger. Taking my children on vacation means more to me than letting them splash in a pool while I slurp down hotel bars’ pina coladas. It’s important to me that my kids grow up understanding that the world is bigger than Los Angeles, and that what at first may seem intimidating about a different place can, in fact, be wonderful. One of my favorite local events is the Los Angeles Travel …

LA, The Rudest City? Not Quite

LA was recently named the country’s rudest city by readers of Travel + Leisure Magazine. Part of me is incredibly offended and part of me understands how it happened. I feel like there are two Los Angeleses. One that’s filled with close-knit neighborhoods full of loving families, and another where people are self involved, rude, and incredibly aggressive. And in some cases those people are one in the same.

Why I Love Los Angeles

I’m not just a glass is half empty type, I’m a glass-is-about-to-explode-with-toxic-gas kind of gal. When my colleagues and I talked about what we love about LA all I could think about was the traffic, the open hostility, the pollution. But then I took a step back and looked out my window. My neighbor was walking her dog with her two boys while they rode their scooters. I know their names and our boys carved pumpkins together. When I go …

Living In LA

I could never live anywhere but Los Angeles. My family has lived here for over 100 years. It is my homeland. But it’s more than just having all my family here, none of them can leave either. It’s the weather, the social culture, the history. That’s right I said history.
