Tuesday night at my house wasn’t a typical evening at home. That’s because I was thrilled to host some of the city’s most influential mom bloggers, including several from Moms LA!
It was so fun hanging out with Yvonne Condes, Moms LA co-founder and blogger at Yvonne In LA, and Moms LA contributors, Lee Rose Emery, LA City Mom, Courtney Lewis, Santa Monica Macaroni Kids, Kim Tracy Prince, Agoura Hills Mom and House of Prince, and Bridget Doshi, Mint Green With Envy. We socialized and caught up with each other while sipping Skinny Girl Cocktails.
Our program for the evening focused on education resources moms can use—and trust. As a mom, I value my network of friends who suggest great resources they’ve used and trust completely. I’ve always felt that when moms share information, it prevents the proverbial “reinvention of the wheel,” which is time-consuming and stressful when you need something for your family.
During the program, we heard from our outstanding event sponsors. Launch Education of Santa Monica (who I hired to prepare my daughter for a standardized test) about their services, including private tutoring, standardized test preparation and academic mentoring.
The Kelter Center of West L.A. talked about how they help smart kids who struggle to learn, succeed in school. The Kelter Center’s range of resources– like its research-based curriculum and professional teachers– is tremendous, all available at one primary location for families. The Kelter Center works with students from L.A. public and private schools.
Project Knapsack, a non-profit, offers wonderful volunteer opportunities for parents and kids to help fill backpacks with much-needed school supplies donated by Staples. Local kids also exchange beautifully written pen pals letters to the children in Africa. Once the backpacks are filled with everything students urgently need, including pencils and paper, CEO/Founder, Porcha Dodson travels to Africa to deliver the knapsacks. Project Knapsack hosts fashion shows, basket hoop-a-thons at Loyola Marymount, lunch events at California Pizza Kitchen and much more for parents and their kids to give back to those in need.
And, for parents searching for private secondary schools, LA Private School Guide is an excellent resource.
The evening’s special guest, Robinne Lee, is an actress, mom, lawyer, producer and more! She talked about upcoming roles in three movies (Miss Dial, The Under Shepard and Divorce Invitation) and her search for a private elementary school for her son. She’s an amazingly talented (and super-nice!) multi-tasking mom who also values resources that are mom-tested!
After the program, we continued eating fresh, delicious salads from Mendocino Farms and splurging on deserts from Akasha Restaurant, Magnolia Bakery and Gotta Have S’More. Guests received gift bags with a petite accessories bag from BAO Style Photos by Scott Stewart Photography.
What an incredibly fun and inspiring night to be in a room filled with L.A.’s most talented mom bloggers, great food and drinks and a presentation by the city’s highly respected education resources for moms!
