These last few weeks have been so busy  and I have to say that the election had me a bit on edge. I am looking forward to unwinding, getting my hands a little dirty, and trying something new this weekend. Now I just need to decided which one of these picks to check out.

 

Saturday, November 10 – JANM Family Saturday: Pop Culture

For the Love of Pop Culture -inspired by the current exhibition at the Japanese American National Museum: Giant Robot Biennale 3. Families can take part of this art day by and
- Create a colorful pop culture collage
- Make a cardboard robot using a variety of fun materials

- Learn how to make an origami dragonfly

- Make Corn on the cob cookies
- Learn some hip-hop moves
- Silkscreen a t-shirt or bag

- Make a comic strip

Where: Japanese American Museum 369 East 1st St. LA

Saturday, November 10 – Venice Meet

The Venice Meet brings together local craftspeople, independent musicians, and specialty food artisans and provides them with a neighborhood forum to exhibit their wares. At its heart, The Venice Meet is about building community and capturing the independent spirit of this one of a kind neighborhood!

Where: Westminster Elementary School Parking Lot ,1010 Abbot Kinney Blvd, Venice

When: 11:00 AM – 5:00 PM

Who: All ages

Saturday, November 10 – Exploring Your Universe 2012

Get ready for the most exciting day of science all year, the fourth annual Exploring Your Universe. There will  be many activities and demonstrations open to the general public and for all ages including workshops, faculty and graduate student talks, planetarium shows, solar telescope viewing, comet making, weather tours, dinosaur fossils, physics demos and much more! Sunday, November 11 – Veteran’s Day @ Zimmer

At Zimmer we honor our community heroes, including our soldiers. Create medals to honor the special heroes in our lives.

Where: Zimmer Children’s Musuem 6505 Wilshire Blvd. Suite 100 LA

When: 12:30 PM – 5:00 PM
Who: Kids 2-8
How: Just show up!

Cost of event: free admission for Veterans, adults $8, ages 1-17 $5, under 1 free

Sunday, November 11 – Tree Lighting @ The Grove

It’s the most wonderful time of the year! Yes, the season of giving is now upon us once again. The Grove will host their Tenth Annual Tree Lighting to get the wintery celebration started. Grab a cup of hot cocoa and the family and come out and enjoy a well lit evening.

When: 7:30 PM

Sunday, November 11 – LACMA Family Sunday: Clay Play!

Los Angeles artist Ken Price created ceramic sculptures that were truly revolutionary—from fascinating natural shapes that seem to glow with color to whimsical and functional cups. In artist-led workshops, you can make your own Ken Price–inspired sculptures out of clay and color. While you’re here, cruise on over to BCAM to see more than a thousand miniature cars zooming through Chris Burden’s kinetic sculpture, Metropolis II.

Thursday, November 15 through Monday, December 3 – The Rink at the Hyatt

In celebration of the holiday season, the Los Angeles landmark Hyatt Regency Century Plaza hotel launches The Rink- a 3,000 square foot, eco-friendly synthetic hybrid skating rink located in the hotel’s outdoor backyard. There is live music every day.

Where: Hyatt Regency Century Plaza- 2025 Avenue of the Stars, Century City
When: 3:00 PM – 9:00 PM Sat & Sun opens at 11 am
Who: All ages

Courtney Lewis and her family can usually be found on the kids party circuit. She’s the one chasing the kids dressed up as super heroes, pirates, star wars characters. Thanks to coffee she also publishes Santa Monica Macaroni Kid - a free weekly email & website highlighting all the events happening on the westside.
