Google maps told me that I was headed to the Staples Center in downtown Los Angeles. But that couldn’t be right. Nike had invited me to the Vault just given me the address. Then I realized I didn’t know where the Vault was or what I would be doing when I got there.
All I knew was that I needed to wear comfortable clothes and there would be some light training.
When I got to the Vault, Nike’s spot for special events, I was given a gym bag (a very cool looking gym bag by the way) and was told to go change. I changed into running capris*, socks, and a sleeveless Nike shirt.
“What are we going to do?” I asked everyone who came within earshot. At least I was there with friends. MomsLA contributors Ana Flores, Rachel Matos, and Vanessa Diaz were there along with some great bloggers and sports writers.
We were separated into two groups and then told why we were there. And, as I imagined, we were there for something very cool. I absolutely love my Nike+ app for running and use it every time I go. Now there is an app for basketball that checks how high you jump, how fast you go, and how well you do. The Nike+ Basketball app is paired with a sensor that goes in in the Lunar TR1+ men’s shoe or the Lunar Hyper Workout+ women’s shoe.
We got to try out the app and the shoes and compete against each other to see who could jump the highest and run the fastest. Here are Ana and I doing Foot Fires.
I rocked the foot fires, but I can’t say the same about the vertical jumps. Jumping is not for me (I’ve had two kids. I can’t jump up and down!).
The shoes were really cute and comfortable and the app was fun to use. It also offers training sessions that you can do on your own or compete against friends.
Here’s a video with a demo of the app.
*Cool sidenote; the capris are made from recycled plastic bottles.
