The new ABC drama Notorious opens with a hot sex scene. You’re not quite sure what’s happening until the lights go on and you realize that it’s the producer of a CNN type show and her boyfriend having a moment before a newscast. Then Julia George (Piper Perabo) straightens her skirt and gets to work. That night’s guest happens to be Jake Gregorian (Daniel Sunjata), one of the country’s most sought-after lawyers – sought after if you’re accused of doing something very, very bad. Unbeknownst to the public and the show’s crew, they are a team working to manipulate the news for ratings and clients.

Notorious is a super fun, fast-paced drama based on real life lawyer Mark Geragos – who defended Scott Peterson, Gary Condit and Michael Jackson – and former Larry King Live Executive Producer, Wendy Walker.

We went to the show’s premiere party on Tuesday night, hosted by Geragos, and got to talk to Geragos and Walker about how they met, how the show came about and whether Jake and Piper will get together.

Julia and Jake have amazing chemistry, but are just friends on the show, which is much like Geragos and Walker who have been friends for 20 years.

Walker went to Geragos with the show idea after Larry King retired and Walker was out of a job. “After all of the people who have approached me … this was the first time I ever thought an idea made sense.” To hear more of our interview, visit the MomsLA Podcast

After watching the first episode, I can say that it definitely makes sense. The storylines are juicy and sexy and the cast is equally appealing. Like Scandal, the show formerly in the time slot Notorious is taking (Scandal won’t be back until midseason due to Kerri Washington’s pregnancy), it has the added element of watching beautiful people in beautiful clothes do very bad things.

Wendy, always a journalist, had to adjust to the fictional element of Nortorious. “When I saw the script of me having sex in my office I sent a very serious email to Josh Berman (the show’s creator) and I said I couldn’t have sex in my office 15 minutes before the show because I would be checking the live shots and I’d have to do this and I’d have to do that. So please can you make it 45 minutes before the show then I could probably do it. He emails me back and goes, ‘Wendy, it’s not true. It’s fake. You can have sex during the show in your office if you want to.'”

I’m sure that will happen at some point during the season. We also talked to show creator and writer Allie Hagan, who has an equally fascinating backstory. She was a lobbyist in Washington D.C. when she started a Tumblr blog called Suri’s Burn Book about life from the point of view of Suri Cruise. It was wildly popular and became a book, “Suri’s Burn Book: Well-Dressed Commentary From Hollywood’s Little Sweetheart.” She went on to write scripts, was mentored by Josh Berman and became a creator of Notorious. We somehow got on the topic of Jessica Simpson and it turns out that Allie was wearing a pair of pink Jessica Simpson pumps. They were so adorable that we had to take a picture.
