Renaissance Indian Wells Resort & Spa Review

My family and I spent a wonderful couple of days at the Renaissance Indian Wells Resort & Spa recently. We were guests of the resort and treated to a round of golf, a spa treatment, and a special photography class for #DayofDiscovery.

The Hotel
The Renaissance Esmerelda Indian Wells was beautiful. We had a guest room with 2 queen beds, a small refrigerator, a safe, a comfy loveseat (that my younger son took over), and a balcony overlooking the property. The beds seemed new and were extremely comfortable.

The first night of our stay, we went straight to the pool. The pool was situated between the buildings so it was shaded in the afternoon. The pool was huge with an area for in-the-pool lawn chairs near a sandy beach. There was a lawn behind the pool for kids to play and during holidays they have kids’s events there. Some evenings the Renaissance offers movies by the pool and kids can go to kids club during the day or in the evening.

There is plenty to do including renting bikes or hiking a nearby trail. The days we were there it was about 100 degrees with little to no humidity, which for me (I’m originally from Tucson) was perfect.

The Food
When we entered our hotel room, we were greeted with a room service welcome tray with delicious chocolates and other snacks. After hours of playing in the pool, we decided to try the Glo Lounge for dinner. We sat at comfortable lounge chairs away from the bar in an open area.

My older son really wanted to order from Glo Sushi (also in the lounge), and although my husband and I were suspicious of sushi in the desert, we ordered sushi and a couple of rolls. The fish was excellent and so was the spinach salad with goat cheese and strawberries. The next morning we talked about going back again for dinner.

Instead, the next day we took a photo class the hotel offered for Marriott Hotel’s Global #DayofDiscovery. We learned how to better use our cell phones to take pictures with photo tips and apps. The photo tour ended at SPC – Sirocco Pizza Company. There were about 30 of us in the class and we took pictures of the gorgeous food and stayed for dinner. My husband and I shared a gluten-free pizza (pictured above) and Brussels sprouts with bacon. Both dishes were excellent. My kids had pizza and pasta that they finished off (with my help. The pizza was unbelievable).

The next morning, we tried the only restaurant we hadn’t tried, which was Cava. We had the breakfast buffet, which was $24 for adults and $10 for kids. I had an omelet with spinach, bacon, cheese and jalapeno, fresh fruit, and I made myself a cucumber, carrot, melon juice from the juice bar.

The Spa
As part of our visit, I was given a scrub. I’ve never had one before and didn’t know what to expect. It was very relaxing. My skin has never felt so soft. My esthetician was named Pattie and I highly recommend her. She was very nice and interesting, and talked me through the process, which was very nice. At the end of the scrub was a half-hour massage. Fabulous.

Golf at Indian Wells Golf Resort

The Renaissance arranged a round of golf for us at Indian Wells Golf Resort. At first, I thought it would be best to do the driving range instead of golfing the course. My husband’s a golfer, but my boys and I have only taken a few lessons. We ended up playing 9-holes on the scenic Celebrity Course and I’m so glad we did. It was gorgeous – super intimidating to me – but gorgeous. Indian Wells is a popular golf resort that has been featured in magazines and on television. Everyone we ran into looked like professional golfers but were really nice (especially the people we let go in front of us because we were going slowly — so many sandtraps!).

We had the best day – tons of family bonding – and are already planning our next golf trip. I’m a beginner so it was tough for me, but it was manageable and I learned a lot.

After golfing, we were parched and starving. We had a lovely lunch at the Vue Grille and Bar overlooking the golf course.

We’ll be Back

We had a wonderful time at the Renaissance and we would definitely go back. There are many deals during the summer and a lot of fun family activities for families on the weekend. Check out the website for last-minute summer deals.
