In early July, my family and I went on an epic vacation. We started in Seattle then went on a cruise to Alaska and then we were back in Seattle. We had a fabulous time during our three days in Seattle. I know that it can be gloomy and rainy there but we saw little evidence of that. It was beautiful and clear and the temperature was perfect.
We stayed at the Hampton Inn & Suites near the Seattle Center and downtown. It was great for us. We had a suite so our kids could stay in a separate room plus the hotel offered free breakfast every morning. It was across the street from a family- friendly restaurant and a grocery store.
The day we arrived, we went on a walk to see the Space Needle, the iconic Seattle landmark built for the 1962 World’s Fair, at Seattle Center, and then down to Pike Place Market. Pike Place Market was crowded, but still fun with plenty to see and buy – from fresh fish and vegetables to flowers and candy. It was a long walk so we took the Seattle Monorail, which only travels back and forth from the Seattle Center to the Westlake Center Mall, back to the neighborhood near our hotel.
One day we took a ferry from Pike Place area over to Bainbridge Island and had lunch. The views were amazing (I took the picture above from the ferry) and the island was cute and fun to explore.
Our best day happened when we met our friends at the Washington Park Arboretum and then went Kayaking at Agua Verde Paddle Club on Lake Union. My husband and I each had one of our boys on the tandem kayak as we paddled to the arboretum. It was beautiful and my boys are still talking about it.
After the 7-day cruise arrived back in Seattle, we rented a car and made the 2 hour drive to Mt. Rainier. At first I was hesitant to go that far especially after being on vacation so long, but I’m glad we went. After lunch in the charming Paradise Inn, we did a short hike from the Mt. Rainier National Park Visitor’s Center and had a stunning view of a waterfall and the mountain.
I can talk about it all I want, but you have to see it to believe how beautiful it was. Here is a slideshow from our Seattle Vacation.
Disclosure: I don’t have one. This is not a sponsored post just an awesome vacation.
