I was in the kitchen getting ready to start on dinner when my 9-year-old daughter walks in and asks: “Mom, can you check my head for lice?”
What the hecko! “Run to the bathroom!” As I ran the nit comb through her hair I asked her why she thought she had lice. “The girl I sit next to told me she had lice.”
Did she tell the teacher? “No.” Did you tell the teacher? “No.” Arrrgh!
I found nothing, but for good measure I massaged her head with tea tree oil and had her sit in the bathroom reading her book while I checked a second time. All good! I had to explain to her that keeping a secret like that was not good and how easily it could spread to the whole classroom who would then take it home and spread lice to the rest of the family who would then take it work, and they would catch it and then take it to their families (I had to make sure she understood so the more dramatic I made it, the better). No lice secrets! Needless to say, I called the teacher.
After washing her hair, I sprayed with Fairy Tales organic leave-in conditioner that “repels lice and other insects”. Anything that has the word “repel” is good in my book. I had one daughter go through her elementary years without lice and I would like it to continue the success.
