Fire Service Recognition Day 2017

The second Saturday of May is known as Fire Service Day. Neighborhood fire stations welcome families to visit, learn fire safety, and get an up-close and personal look at the tools, machines, and people who work to keep our neighborhoods safe. Los Angeles Fire Stations will be open from 10:00 am to 4:00 pm. Burbank Fire Department Headquarters will be participating from 9:00 am to 2:00 pm. Glendale Station 21 will also be hosting a free pancake breakfast. Fire Station 1 in Redondo Beach will participate from 10:00 am to 3:00 pm. And the Beverly Hills Fire Department invites families from 1:00 pm to 4:00 pm.

Saturday, May 13th is “Grandma and Me” Day at the Flashlight Exhibit: Celebrating Black America in Children’s Literature. This special exhibit tells “the story of black America through children’s literature, and will celebrate great black characters, authors, and artists from the early American colonial period to today.” Visitors can receive one free professional photo per every grandmother and child pair who attend. There will also be special family-friendly activities for the whole family. The exhibit is available 11:00 am to 5:00 pm, with special events scheduled for 12:30 pm to 4:30 pm.

Children are encouraged to show their Kid Power at the UNICEF Kid Power Celebration happening on Saturday, May 13th from 11:00 am to 4:00 pm. This free, action-packed, family-friendly event includes a Star Wars-inspired activity, a Target crazy maze, live entertainment, special guests, and much more. The event is designed to encourage families to get active while helping to save the lives of malnourished children around the world. Kids will “run, jump, and play to unlock lifesaving nutrition that UNICEF delivers to severely malnourished children around the world.”

Join Paulina and Bricia of the Super Mamás Podcast for a day of inspiration, fun with the little ones and connections with other moms and moms-to-be. There will be food, entertainment and shopping. Panelists include Melissa Fumero of NBC’s Brooklyn 99 and Natalie Alcala of @FashionMamas. Tickets are available online. Adults are $25 and kids are free.

Sunday, May 14th is “Salsa Sunday” at The Wallis. Debbie Allen and Lyrik Cruz will teach families a Salsa dance class. All ages are welcome. The activity is from 12:00 pm to 2:00 pm and is free.

Mother’s Day Free Day at the Zimmer

Celebrate Mother’s Day at the Zimmer Museum from 12:30 pm to 4:30 pm. In honor of all mothers, the Zimmer is offering free admission. In addition, children can make their mothers a special card for this special day.
