Why should you start a blog? I have a lot to say to answer that question, but I’ll give you my Top Five Reasons to Start a Blog here and maybe drop a few more on you another time.
I started blogging as a hobby and I’ve built it into a career I absolutely love. Blogging can be solely a creative outlet or you can use it to boost your business. And probably anything and everything in between.
Plus, I want to recommend Hub Web Hosting for your Blog. MomsLA has an affiliate relationship with Hub and we know first hand what a great job they do. We highly recommend them and you can scroll down to learn more.
1. Blogs Get You Found in Search
I started my blog MarVistaMom in 2008 and after nurturing my little Labor of Love for about a year, I woke up one morning in 2009 to an email from a certain TV show based in Chicago. The Oprah Winfrey Show had found my blog and offered me and my neighbors Home Makeovers by Nate Berkus. All because blogs are Search Magic.
2. Blogs Strengthen Your Voice
Whether you want to write poetry, shoot beautiful photos of your kids or of your lunch, or tell the world all about your business, blogging gives you a chance to practice over and over again – and that’s the only way to get better. The more you blog, the better you’ll get, and since your blog needs to be updated regularly, you’ll get the opportunity to be become better all the time.
3. You’ll Build A Community
I’m a part of the Mom Blogging Community and as co-Founder of MomsLA, I am honored to be. The so-called Mommy Bloggers are a sisterhood of women who’ve all been through similar experiences of having and raising babies and kids – and the daily life struggles and joys that come with that.
Food bloggers, Design bloggers, Coupon bloggers, Mid-Life bloggers, Celebrity bloggers – these are all communities that have formed to support and affirm each other. I’ve learned blogging tips, marketing skills and countless ways to build my business from the community I’m a part of. You will too.
4. It’s Called Social
Social Media is the way you can broadcast your message and interact with your fans and customers, and it all starts from the Blog. Whether you’re a Food blogger who uses Pinterest to direct people back to your website with an amazing photo, or a company who chooses Facebook to run a big contest to attract attention, social media is intrinsically linked to blogging, and personally, I think it’s great fun.
5. Marketing, Marketing, Marketing
If you’re a business owner, you need to get customers to buy your product or service. That’s the bottom line. Doing that in the 20th Century meant you needed to spend a lot on advertising in print or on radio/TV. In this Century you can avoid much of those costs by doing your marketing online via blogging and social media. (See Number 1.)
I wasn’t even selling anything when I was found for the Oprah show, but I bet you are! How amazing would it be if a show like Oprah’s found you because of your blog? Get started today or you’ll never know.
