5 Reasons Why You Should See Ghostbusters

Unless you’ve been trapped in a cave with no internet, you know that the new Ghostbusters stars all women. Because of this (and a terrible first trailer), some people think that it won’t be good. Well, I’ve seen it and I can tell you that it’s really good and definitely worth seeing. In fact, I’ve seen it and I’m going to see it again with my kids. It’s received some glowing reviews, but if you need more convincing, here are 5 Reasons Why You Should See The New Ghostbusters.

1) The Ghostbusters Have Great Chemistry
Melissa McCarthy, Kristin Wiig, Kate McKinnon and Leslie Jones are so fantastic together. One of the things that made the first Ghostbusters movie an 80s classic was watching Bill Murray, Harold Ramis, Dan Akroyd and Ernie Hudson together. This team is just as funny, probably more so to a modern audiences because the movie is faster paced and more joke dense. Which leads to number 2…

2) It’s Funny
There is a scene in Ghostbusters where Melissa McCarthy and Kristin Wiig are interviewing Chris Hemsworth for a job as their secretary. It is the most perfect, most hilarious thing I have seen in so long, that I think it’s worth seeing the movie just for that. If that isn’t enough, Kate McKinnon is so weird and fantastic as the genius nuclear engineer who creates all the ghostbusting contraptions. As an added comic bonus, Chris Hemsworth is surprisingly wonderful and not just because he’s always in a tight t-shirt.

3) Your Kids Will Love It
Well, my kids will love it anyway. My boys are 10 and 12 and they are just the right age for this movie. It may be too scary for younger kids – ghosts jump out and scare people and when they do it’s very loud. People are slimed and there are chase scenes. But if they don’t mind those things it silly fun that they’ll watch over and over when it comes out on DVD. UPDATE – They loved it.

4) There’s Are So Many Great Cameos
The cameos are a big part of the fun in this movie. Your kids won’t know what you’re laughing out about, but it’s quite a treat of the original Ghostbusters.

5) It’s A Funny Movie Starring Women, Co-Written By a Woman
The backlash against Ghostbusters really bothered me. It’s absurd that in 2016 people were hating it because it was a remake starring all women. It’s not like they cast it with swimsuit models. These are some of the funniest women working today and everything they’re in is funny – Bridesmaids, Spy and SNL  to name a few. There is so much pressure on it to be good because if it fails that means that another movie with an all female cast will never be made again. Ridiculous. So what I’m saying is that if you need another reason to see it, supporting funny women is a pretty good one. UPDATE – It’s truly horrible what Leslie Jones has been going through. She has suffered disgusting racial attacks online that are heartbreaking. Go see the movie to support her.
