Madrona Marsh Preserve

On the first Friday of each month from 10:00 am to 12:00 pm, the Madrona Marsh invites children (ages 3-6) to come and learn about this very special habitat. “Friday Fun” is an interactive program that combines science, art, story time, and a tour. Each month, emphasis is placed on respecting all living things. The activity is free (though a $5 donation is gladly accepted). Pre-registration is required, because space is limited to 20 children. LA County Fair

The LA County Fair runs from Friday, September 2nd to September 25th and is the most diverse fair in the nation where families can experience carnival rides and crafting exhibits as they “Dare to Fair.” America’s largest county fair in acreage (487 acres) – has unveiled its first new mascot since 1948: The Fairdevil, the official, star-spangled ambassador of Fair fun. He has always been the creative force behind the epic fun that goes into each year’s fair and now fairgoers have the opportunity to rub shoulders and bump fists with him! International Vulture Awareness Day

On Saturday, September 3rd, from 10:00 am to 4:00 pm, the Los Angeles Zoo is celebrating International Vulture Awareness Day. A special bird show is planned which will highlight vultures from around the world. In addition, there will be a variety of vulture-related activities planned. The activities are included in regular Zoo admission ($20 for those 13 and older, $15 for children ages 2-12, and free for children younger than 2).
Kidspace Children’s Museum

Bring the family to Kidspace Children’s Museum and get ready for autumn. Farmer Days will be held on Saturday, September 3rd, Sunday, September 4th, and Monday, September 5th. Festivities include a petting zoo (available from 11:30 am to 2:30 pm each day), learning about how worms help our food grow, making your own harmonica to play in the “barnyard boogie,” and more. (All activities are included in museum admission of $13.)
44th Annual Fiesta Hermosa

Come to Hermosa Beach for the 44th Annual Fiesta Hermosa. The festivities are all weekend-long, beginning Saturday, September 3rd and continuing on Sunday September 4th, and Monday, September 5th (10:00 am to 6:00 pm each day). Fiesta Hermosa is regarded as the “Largest Arts and Crafts Fair in Southern California.” More than 300 artists will be on hand, there will be a wide variety of food, live musical performances, and a special “Kiddie Carnival.” The Kiddie Carnival includes a 30-foot slide, pony rides, face painting, and mechanical rides and games for children ages 3-10. And mommies that need a peaceful spot will find it at the “Fiesta Siesta,” a place where babies can be nursed and diapers can be changed.

Sunday, September 4th from 11:00 am to 3:30 pm, families are invited to the Fiesta Italiana at the Bowers Museum. Festivities include live Italian musical performances, face painting, art projects, food sampling, and more. 15th Annual Festival of Children

The 15th Annual Festival of Children begins on Saturday, September 3rd and continues throughout the month of September. Each weekend, special activities are planned at the South Coast Plaza. The festivities begin at 12:00 pm on Saturday with the opening ceremonies. Throughout the day, there will be live musical and dance performances as well as gymnastics and martial arts demonstrations. The month-long festival is held in conjunction with National Child Awareness Month and showcases more than 75 child-oriented organizations and charities.
