Fiesta La Ballona – A Party in the Park!

Fiesta La Ballona begins Friday, August 25th and continues through Sunday, August 27th. This annual family-friendly event features live music, food trucks, carnival rides, a petting zoo, and more. Over 100 booths will provide information on community resources as well as offering merchandise and art from local vendors. Fiesta hours are 4:30 pm to 10:00 pm on Friday (with carnival rides beginning at 6:00 pm), 11:00 am to 10:00 pm on Saturday, and 11:00 am to 9:00 pm on Sunday.

Families are invited to celebrate the birthday of our city on Saturday, August 26th from 6:00 am to 1:00 pm. Festivities honoring the 236th anniversary of the founding of Los Angeles will include exhibits, food, live entertainment, historic re-enactments, a civic ceremony, and birthday cake.

Free Entrance Days in the National Parks

Families can visit National Parks for free on Friday, August 25th in honor of the National Park Service Birthday. If your kids haven’t yet started back at school, it’s a great opportunity to re-visit a family favorite or explore a new location. Check online for a complete list of sites. A few relatively close destinations include Cabrillo National Monument, the Channel Islands, and Death Valley.

Birdie’s Playhouse

Levitt Pavilion has been hosting free performances all summer long, and on Sunday, August 27th, a family favorite returns. Birdie’s Playhouse will be performing at 6:30 pm. “Birdie’s Playhouse creates rhythmic music with a Latin twist.” The whole family will find themselves up and moving their bodies as they enjoy this energetic, fun performance.

Cinema Under the Stars: Moana
Westwood Village
1031 Broxton Ave., Los Angeles, CA 90024

Westwood Village invites families to an outdoor, community movie-screening event. On Friday, August 25th, the Disney film Moana will be shown. Doors open at 6:00 pm, DJs perform from 6:30 pm to 8:30 pm, and the movie starts at 8:30 pm. Families are encouraged to arrive early to secure their spot and to bring their own blankets and lawn chairs.

L.A. Taco Festival
Grand Park
between Broadway and Spring St., Los Angeles, CA

The 7th Annual L.A. Taco Festival is happening on Saturday, August 26th from 12:00 pm to 8:00 pm. This free event features live music, food, and lots of fun. A variety of taco vendors will be on hand. And it’s all for a good cause! The L.A. Taco Festival benefits Jovenes Inc., “a local nonprofit that is a place of personal transformation for homeless youth.”

National Dog Day

The Zimmer Children’s Museum is celebrating National Dog Day on Sunday, August 27th from 2:00 pm to 4:00 pm. (National Dog Day is really on August 26th). Kids will enjoy fun activities as they celebrate the furry friends that mean so much to so many families. Admission is $7.50 each.
