5th Annual Valentine-Making, Bingo-Playing Community Dinner

Celebrate Valentine’s Day and help do something good for the community at Big Sunday’s 5th Annual Valentine-Making, Bingo-Playing Community Dinner on Sunday, February 12th from 4:00 pm to 7:00 pm. Families will be making cards and gift bags for those who are ill and/or facing difficult times. In addition, there will be a community dinner and fun game of bingo! All ages are welcome to come. And don’t forget to bring non-perishable food items which will be donated to Alexandria House. You can RSVP online.

STAR Education’s 17th Annual African-American Art Festival

STAR Eco Station is hosting its 17th Annual African-American Art Festival on Saturday, February 11th from 11:00 am to 4:00 pm. Festivities include live musical and dance performances, cultural art exhibits, games, celebrity guests, and more. Admission to the Festival is free; admission to the Eco Station is $8 for adults and $6 for children (children under 2 are free).

A Night in Focus: Picasso

Families are invited to a special evening event at the Norton Simon Museum on Saturday, February 11th from 5:00 pm to 7:30 pm. The evening will allow visitors to interact with Museum staff and learn about Picasso as a printmaker by looking at his work on display in States of Mind: Picasso Lithographs 1945-1960, as well as his paintings that are on display in the modern art galleries. Children will be able to use collage to make a Valentine for a special someone, adults can create their own scratch art, and both children and adults can work on a coloring activity. Enjoy live music in the galleries all evening long. The event is included in Museum admission ($12 for adults, free for children).

Bowtie Field Day

Families are invited to Bowtie Field Day happening on Saturday, February 11th from 2:00 pm to 7:00 pm. This free event features several fun activities (including fishing demos, knot tying workshops, sculpting with clay, and more) all along the Los Angeles River. And, after sunset, enjoy a campfire and s’mores! You can RSVP online.

Camellia and Tea Festival

Descanso Gardens invites families to its annual Camellia and Tea Festival happening on Saturday, February 11th and Sunday, February 12th from 9:30 am to 2:00 pm each day. Festivities include art activities, guided tours of the Descanso Camellia Collection, tea sampling, live performances, and more. Check the website for a schedule of events. Festival activities are included with admission to the Gardens ($9 for adults, children ages 5-12 are $4, and children younger than 5 are free). 

Whale of a Weekend
Santa Monica Pier Aquarium

Celebrate the yearly migration of the Pacific gray whale at the Santa Monica Pier Aquarium on Saturday, February 11th and Sunday, February 12th from 12:30 pm to 5:00 pm each day. Families can touch baleen, try on simulated whale blubber, make a whale visor, and more. There will also be story times, presentations, and more. Check the website for a schedule of events. 

Free Family Fun Adventure and Game Changer with American Youth Symphony

The American Youth Symphony invites families to two different free concerts on Sunday, February 12th. The first one, Free Family Fun Adventure, at 11:00 am to 12:00 pm will serve as an introduction to classical music and will feature a full orchestra performing Disney’s Fantasia (accompanied with live clips of the movie). This will be an interactive performance perfect for kids of all ages. The second performance, Game Changer, is at 4:00 pm to 6:00 pm and is ideal for video game lovers. The AYS will perform music from popular video games (including The Last Guardian and Journey) and will include a Question and Answer Session with the video game composers. Free tickets are available online.
