Date Day in in Long Beach with Gondola Getaway

Gondola Getaway in Long Beach

MomsLA is your source for Things to do in Los Angeles With Kids.

My husband and I recently celebrated our seventeenth wedding anniversary. Sadly, date nights have become largely non-existent for us, but I still wanted us to do something romantic to mark the occasion. Something for just the two-of-us, something not too far away from home, something unique, and something affordable.

Gondola Getaway, located in Long Beach, met all our requirements. We made a reservation for an hour-long gondola ride, and it was an hour of pure relaxation. Our friendly gondolier gently maneuvered the gondola through the canals of Naples Island. During the cruise, we looked at the large houses, and we said hello to others that were enjoying the waterways (many paddle boaters were out during our Sunday morning cruise). And we talked. Without interruption. We held hands. We were simply together.

And of course, we kissed under each bridge.

Gondola Getaway offers different packages (including a pizza cruise and brunch cruise), and can accommodate groups ranging from 2-56 people. Visitors are welcome to bring refreshments onboard, and Gondola Getaway will provide complimentary cups, ice buckets with ice, and blankets.

Before our cruise, a complimentary photo of the two of us was taken and given to us at the end of our cruise.

The office staff is quite friendly. When making reservations, be sure to ask any questions you may have, let them know if you’re celebrating a special occasion, and see what they can suggest for you. Cruises are offered seven days a week, from 11:-00 am to 11:00 pm, so they offer a lot of flexibility in terms of scheduling.

Neither one of us has been to Italy (yet), but a gondola cruise throughout quiet, charming Naples Island was a nice alternative. And, a special way to celebrate our special day.
