Did you know there are in fact two Dole Whip Recipes in our Universe? It’s true. Both Dole, presumably the inventor of the Dole Whip, and Disneyland, the inventor of the Disney Dole Whip, have recipes for this delightful concoction, perfectly suited to cooling off on a hot day.
Two Recipes, Which One is Best?

More Background About These Tasty Recipes
Disney’s Dole Whip can be purchased at the Tiki Juice Bar in Adventureland, outside the Enchanted Tiki Room, right next door to the Jungle Cruise ride. Give it try from the masters when you’re next at the park. But until then you can try making it yourself.
Disney recently released their Dole Whip recipe on the Disney App, which you probably saw, and we were all surprised by the simplicity of ingredients. Of course it sounded delicious, so we wanted to try it out.

And then we remembered that Dole has a Dole Whip recipe of their own, which turns out to be very different from the one at Disneyland.
Dole, can we assume? Must have invented the recipe, or at least the name, since even at Disneyland it bears the Dole name.
Dole is of course the company that packages and sells tropical fruit, including some of the main ingredients in both Whips (as well as vegetables, not to be forgotten). And their website is full of delicious recipes using their many products.
Including their own Dole Whip. Clearly, it was time to pit the two recipes against each other. So we did. We made them both, and we encourage you to do the same and compare.

Disney Dole Whip Recipe
If you have the Disney App, you probably saw the recipe already, but if not, here it is – so simple and only 3 ingredients.
Ingredients
1 “big” scoop vanilla ice cream
4 ounces pineapple juice
2 cups frozen pineapple
Mix all the ingredients in the blender until smooth and serve.
Heavy on the pineapple, this could be a refreshing beverage, a dessert, or maybe the basis of a smoothie. Greek Yogurt substitute, anyone?

You’ll note that the ingredients are a little different for the Dole DIY recipe. Ingredients are:
frozen pineapple
frozen banana
powdered sugar
coconut milk
lime juice
(Please see the DIY Dole Whip recipe page for the amounts.)
The Banana is the game-changer here. It’s what really makes these two Whips different.

Recipe Note: How Frozen is Too Frozen?
We were warned to be sure the ingredients were really frozen when we made each of the whips, or else they would be too watery, so we kept things frozen solid.
However, that meant it was actually too frozen to blend. We used a Nutri-bullet blender and tried an old-fashioned Osterizer as well, but neither one worked until the ingredients had come closer to room temperature first.
If you have a more powerful blender, this may not be an issue for you.

Which Dole Whip Wins?
I am an unabashed fan of pineapple, likely born of my many years living in Hawaii, so for me the Disney recipe is the clear winner for pineapple goodness – and for simplicity. However, the ice cream essentially makes it feel like a dessert, so it’s not something I can eat all the time. I would have to relegate it to Treat Status.
On the other hand, there’s nothing wrong with bananas in my book. The banana makes the Dole version essentially into a smoothie, which is much more my speed on a regular day, or a morning, let’s say. In fact, if you eliminate the powdered sugar, and maybe add a little protein powder instead, it’s basically a solid meal for me.
But wait, which one wins?
Ultimately, we feel the Dole Whip is delicious, no matter how you make it.
Whether you make the Disney Dole Whip or the Dole Dole Whip, you’re going to enjoy it. It’s going to come down to whether you are a Banana person more than you are a Pineapple person, or on just how you feel that day. Or whether you’re in the mood for a breakfast you can drink or a dessert treat. They are both great!
What About Booze?
We would be remiss if we didn’t mention that you can add rum to these recipes and turn this into cocktail hour. We did. And it was delicious in both.

MomsLA is grateful that both Dole and Disneyland came up with recipes for these tasty treats – and that we got to try them at home. We hope you try one or both and let us know what you think. This is not a sponsored post.
