Los Angeles, 90012
Metro Art presents alto saxophonist, multi-instrumentalist and composer Josh Johnson in a special free rush-hour concert on Friday, Feb. 1, from 4-6 p.m. in the Waiting Room at Union Station.
Originally from Chicago and currently based in Los Angeles, Johnson has been recognized for his sound and approach to improvisation. He has both performed and recorded with noted artists including Esperanza Spalding, Billy Childs, Lalah Hathaway, Robert Hurst, Wayne Shorter, Miguel Atwood-Ferguson, Marquis Hill and Jeff Parker. Johnson also has toured internationally.
In 2015 Josh was commissioned by the Los Angeles Jazz Society to compose a multi-media suite, “Unrest,” to be performed at the Angel City Jazz Festival. “Unrest” combined photographs of the 1992 Los Angeles Civil unrest with Johnson’s musical explorations of racism and class. He was a recipient of an ASCAP Young Jazz Composer award for his composition “Remember Forgot.”
