The USC Pacific Asia Museum is the place to see Tibetan monks from the Drepung Gomang Monastery creating a Sand Mandala. This Tibetan Buddhist tradition “involves the creation and destruction of paintings made from colored sand. Once completed, it is ritualistically dismantled to symbolize the Buddhist belief in the transitory nature of material life.” The closing ceremony is planned for Saturday, January 26th at 12:00 pm. However, visitors can observe the creation of the mandala during regular museum hours all week. (Wednesday, Jan. 23rd 11:00 am to 5:00 pm; Thursday, Jan. 24th from 11:00 am to 8:00 pm ; Friday, January 25th from 11:00 am to 5:00 pm). Admission is $10 for adults; $7 for students with ID and seniors 65+; and free for children 17 and under.
