Performance on the Frog: Meet the Presidents and Vote

Kidspace Children’s Museum is having a special “Performance on the Frog” this weekend, Saturday, February 16th through Monday, February 18th. The Frog is the museum’s frog-shaped stage in the Stone Hollow Amphitheater. At 1:00 pm each day, families can enjoy a special “presidential address.” On Saturday, George Washington will take the stage, Teddy Roosevelt on Sunday, and Abraham Lincoln on Monday. Children will also be able to vote for the 2019 Animal Ambassador President. Admission is $14 each; free for children under 1.

Celebrate Presidents’ Day at the Ronald Reagan Presidential Library and Museum on Monday, February 18th from 10:00 am to 3:00 pm. This special celebration includes musical entertainment, storytelling, arts and crafts, demonstrations, presidential and first lady look-alikes, games, and more. Hot dogs and other food will be available for purchase. Presidents’ Day activities are free; however, regular admission rates apply to those wishing to visit the Museum and its exhibits. Mardi Gras Celebration

In the United States, many cities celebrate the day with a Mardi Gras parade. The largest celebration takes place in New Orleans, Louisiana. People dress up in bright and crazy looking costumes. The parades have all sorts of colorful floats and marching bands. This year, Pretend City is hosting our very own Mardi Gras Celebration. “Laissez les bons temps rouler!” is French for “Let the good times roll!” It’s one of the most popular sayings during Mardi Gras. Join us at Pretend City and let the good times roll in our own Mardi Gras just for kids. Sing, dance, and bake your way through the museum and end the day with a festive parade down our city streets.

Way to Play Day

"Join us for this month’s Way to Play Day as we enhance your child’s play time to be the best it can be and answer any questions you may have about his/her development! With our stage staff and play partners, we strive to create an educational playtime experience for both parents and children! We will have FREE ASQ screenings with Irvine School Readiness Nurses and Speech/Hearing Screenings with Chapman University. Join us for a fun Way To Play Day, which is specially designed to assist parents in finding answers to questions about their child’s development. With our Way To Play Adventure Guide, there are activities to enhance your play at Pretend City. Good To Go From Head To Toe, Pretend City’s child development initiative, together with our play partners, are here to assist you with: ASQ Developmental Check-Ups - Check to see if your child’s growth and development is on track in the areas of Gross Motor, Fine Motor, Problem Solving, and Social-Emotional. ASQ Screenings will be performed by the Irvine Unified School District (IUSD) and Pretend City’s Good To Go Coordinator. Dental Screenings - Healthy Smiles of Orange County will be here to conduct free dental screenings for all kiddos and supply valuable information about proper dental hygiene! Speech Screenings - Representatives from Speech Pathology Associates will be here to assess children’s speech. Fine and Gross Motor Skills Screenings - Maxum Therapy’s physical therapist and occupational therapist will be here to help assist your child in fine motor skills (grasping, buttoning, turning pages, cutting with scissors, etc.) and gross motor skills (catching a ball, balancing, playing tag, etc.) to ensure proper growth and development. FREE Vision Screenings from 10:00a.m. - 12:00p.m. by ELKS "

Baby Steps Through Pretend City

"This month’s Baby Steps is focusing on a Baby’s First Foods and nutrition! Join us as we discuss different topics about baby food including when to introduce solid foods, food allergies, brain foods, avoiding toxins, and how to encourage healthy eating and a good relationship with food as your child grows!  Art Studio: “Footprint Blossoms” Make sure to stop by the Art Studio as we are painting your little one’s tiny toes and making them bloom into beautiful bouquets of spring flowers! Your baby will learn tactile and sensory skills from touching the paint and feeling how paint feels on their skin and in between their toes – and you’ll get a memorable keepsake! Story-Time (2:45 pm): Spring has arrived at Pretend City! Join us as we read a sweet spring time story sure to make your heart bloom!"

"It’s the luck of the Irish! Join us for this fun-filled day as we celebrate St. Patrick’s Day with story time, art, and fun activities. Wear your greenest outfit for our Irish heading home parade at the end of the day. Smart Art (Art Studio-Times Vary): Shamrock Stamping > The art studio has gone to the leprechauns today as we play with, create, and decorate shamrocks of all shapes and sizes!  Sensational Story Time (11:30 am): How to Trap a Leprechaun –Legend says that if you catch a leprechaun, he will grant you any wish. Join the quest to help four children build and set a trap of their own. After the story we will work together to build our own leprechaun trap. Good to Go Activity (3:00 pm): End of the Rainbow Treasure Hunt – Our rainbow has lost its pot of gold! Using your child’s color identification skills go on a treasure hunt through the city to see if you can find the rainbow’s pot of gold."
