Family Travel in Laguna Beach – Pacific Edge Hotel Review

Finding the right hotel when you’re traveling with your family (and dog!) can be tough. Last weekend, I stayed at the Pacific Edge Hotel as part of a media trip to Laguna Beach. It offers affordable and comfortable rooms and is very close to the beach. Plus the hotel has two pools and a hot tub.

I left my family at home (they had school and baseball games) for this trip and I stayed in a Village Room with one queen bed. It was a value room so no view of the ocean, unfortunately. But, like all rooms at the Pacific Edge, it had free wifi.

The room came with a little kitchenette and a Keurig to make coffee in the morning.

The bed was very comfortable and I slept great the two nights I stayed there. The first night in Laguna, the group on the media trip was treated to dinner at the Driftwood Kitchen, which is part of the Pacific Edge.

I wish my pictures below were better because the food was incredible. The steak (middle right)  was perfectly cooked and came with a flavorful onion ring and veal pot roast. The carrot cake was serious business – carrot ice cream, candied carrot, and cardamom cream cheese. It sounds like too much, but it was my favorite dish of the night next to the caprese salad.

Eating all of that delicious food might have had something to do with why I slept so well. The next morning, I took a short walk from my hotel to the beach to take pictures of the surfers. It was so peaceful and I couldn’t get over how clean the beach and water were.

The hotel is right next to the CA Surf Shop on Pacific Coast Highway. The owner was nice enough to lend me a wet suit so I could go swimming after my Stand Up Paddleboard outting was canceled due to high surf. The swim was fabulous and the best part was going back to the hotel and jumping in the hot tub.

The Pacific Edge isn’t fancy, but it has everything families need for a lovely vacation (or staycation) to Laguna. It’s right by coffee shops, boutiques, restaurants, and the ocean. The hotel staff was friendly and helpful and the guests seemed happy. I think we’ll go back as a family for all of those reason, but also because we can bring our dog at no extra charge.

Check back next week to learn about the 10 things for Families to do in Laguna plus a review of Slapfish and Juice & Shakes in Laguna.

Disclosure: I was not compensated for this post, but I was was guest of the hotel and the restaurant. All opinions are my own.
