New Scoop: Handel’s Ice Cream Heads to Burbank

Handel’s Ice Cream is sweet on Los Angeles, and this time they’re scooping up real estate—and Rocky Mocha Blast—in Burbank. The new shop lands just off Pass Avenue on May 15, promising swirls of nostalgia, community-minded events, and, yes, a golden ticket: the first 50 guests will score free ice cream for a year. (That’s 52 weeks of sweet bribery—don’t forget your ID.) (Terms and conditions apply.)

This isn’t a corporate invasion disguised as a corner creamery. Burbank’s Handel’s is helmed by local couple Phil and Molly Kaye, who already brought the brand to Los Feliz last year. He’s a poet-slash-educator, she’s a marriage and family therapist, and together they seem genuinely smitten—not just with each other, but with the messy joy of running an ice cream shop.

“We opened our first location a year ago… and we loved it so much, that we wanted to do it again,” said Phil. It’s that kind of enthusiastic, DIY energy that makes the difference when you’re elbow-deep in Blue Monster and toddler tantrums.

This second scoop of Handel’s brings a roomy 2,100 square feet of frozen goodness, 48 rotating flavors made fresh in-house daily, and a delivery menu hooked up to every app under the sun—DoorDash, Uber Eats, Postmates. (Yes, you can eat banana cream pie in bed. Dreams do come true.)

But the Kayes are also planning to anchor themselves in the neighborhood. They’re continuing their commitment to community outreach through spirit nights and school fundraisers—an ice-cream-powered twist on the PTA bake sale. Molly, a former special ed teacher, says they hope to partner with local schools and organizations: “All with a little help from ice cream.”

As Burbank families brace for summer, it’s not just about frozen treats—it’s about a familiar ritual, a sugar-dusted reward after swim lessons or a breezy Friday night hang. Whether you're in it for the nostalgia, the philanthropy, or just a triple scoop of Black Cherry, Handel’s isn’t just another chain. It’s shaping up to be a pretty sweet neighbor.
