My boys and I went to Knott’s Soak City Water Park in Orange County during its season opener last weekend and it was a great escape from the heat. We hung out in the wave pool.
Floated down Sunset River.
And the best part of the day was that I was able to overcome my fear of water rides and let my boys go on Pacific Spin. It looked even more terrifying before they went on it.
I’m having trouble even looking at it now, but my boys had an excellent time on the ride and they are still talking about how they want to go back to Soak City. There were so many slides for them to go on. They really loved the Laguna Storm Water Tower. I loved it because it was right next to a grassy area where I could lay down on my beach towel in the sun.
We got to Soak City at 10:30 AM, which was a half hour after it opened. There were other people who got there throughout the day who I imagine were season pass holders. I recommend getting there early if you’re only going for one day and you want to get a good spot on a beach chair and avoid the long lines for the slides. There are inner tubes and cabanas for rent, but they were also taken by late morning.
There are lots of deals for Soak City including the season pass that I mentioned. If you buy online you get money off of your ticket and you get even more off it you buys days in advance. Plus there are AAA and Military discounts.
Speaking of Military discounts, there’s a special one going on for Memorial Day.
Are you a Military veteran or active duty Military member? Knott’s Soak City salutes your service with free admission to Knott’s Soak City May 24-26. Just show your valid Military I.D. at the entrance turnstiles. Additional discounted tickets can be purchased at the ticket booth or at your Military Ticket Office. Free ticket offer good for one ticket per valid Military I.D.
As far as food, there are many places to buy pizza, burgers and salads. You can only bring water into the park, but no food. Check out the food section of the Knott’s site for information on food specials. Soak City opens at 10 AM and closes between 5 PM and 7 PM. We were exhausted by 4 so we went home for dinner.
Disclosure: My children and I received free admission for review purposes.
