Lompoc’s Lavender Festival Is Back—and It Smells Like Summer

If you’ve ever fantasized about frolicking through fields of lavender with a glass of chilled rosé in one hand and a locally made lavender cookie in the other, your time has come. The 2nd Annual Lavender Festival at Santa Rita Hills Lavender Farm returns to Lompoc on July 12, and it’s got everything you didn’t know you needed for peak summer energy: pony rides, handmade gemstone jewelry, and yes, lavender lemonade.

Set in the rolling Santa Rita Hills of Santa Barbara County—just far enough from LA to feel like an actual escape but close enough to make it a day trip—this five-hour purple-hued celebration is what you get when a master gardener with a vision and a pandemic-era plot of land say, “Why not 3,000 lavender plants?”

The festival runs from noon to 5PM, and for a $12 pre-sale ticket ($20 at the door), you’ll get access to a local artisan market, food vendors serving everything from BBQ to tacos to hand-dipped ice cream, live music by Luke Metzler, and a peek into the actual lavender distillation process. If you’re looking for a moment of quiet creativity, sign up for a lavender wreath-making class—materials and instructions included.

For the kids, there’s face painting and pony rides. For the adults, there’s an ocean view, small-batch lavender oil, and a solid chance to pretend you’re in Provence.

It’s not all rustic vibes, though—visitors should come prepared. Closed-toed shoes are required, and bees, naturally drawn to the fields, will be buzzing. Also worth noting: parking is offsite, with a shuttle running from Santa Ynez Valley Marriott and La Purisima Golf Course.

The Santa Rita Hills Lavender Farm itself is a pandemic success story—an 8.5-acre labor of love from mother-son duo Denise and Lucas Neumann. Their regenerative approach to farming yields more than just lavender; the property also produces seasonal flowers, veggies, native plants, and enough small-town charm to make you question every decision you’ve made to stay in the city.

So if you’re looking to break out of the routine and into a field of bloom, head north for a sensory reset. It’s summer, after all—and what better way to salute it than with the scent of lavender in the air and a handmade wreath in your trunk?
