When I first became a mom, I would joke that Mother’s Day was like any other Sunday, but with one less meal to cook. After breakfast in bed, there was still laundry to do, errands to run and work to get done. But in the last couple of years, Mother’s Day has become one of my favorite days to spend with family. Now that my kids are older, we can do things together; unlike when they were little and getting them out the door took longer than actually being anywhere.
For the last few years we’ve spent the day outside. Getting out of the house and away from computers, phones and television to go hiking, running or kayaking is more fun for me than a fancy meal or expensive gifts. For Mother’s Day, I want us to talk to each other without distraction and appreciate what’s important. I’m not going to say that we spend the day sitting on top of a mountain talking about how much we love each other, but we do spend quality time together where I can feel how much we love each other.
This year, we’ll be heading outside once again. I was asked to share my Mother’s Day family traditions for a campaign with JCPenney. I was given a gift card so I went shopping to find a new hiking outfit, which was pretty exciting considering that I wear the same blue t-shirt (in the photo above) every time we go hiking. And also because I was able to go to the mall in Culver City to shop for myself. To celebrate Mother’s Day and help you get ready for your next mom adventure, we’re giving away a $25 JCPenney Gift Card. Details are in the Rafflecopter below.
I ended up getting this Nike DRI-FIT tank top that I can wear to go hiking or running. The shorts were Made For Life cargo shorts and they’re so comfortable. Speaking of comfortable, I also bought a pair of stretchy, cropped Levi’s that feel like wearing yoga pants, but look like cute jeans.
I found a few other cute gifts for mom including Clinique Chubby Sticks at the Sephora inside JCPenney, flip-flop slippers and a pink Nike top.
I’m not sure where we’ll go this year for our annual outdoor adventure, but I can’t wait to have a day outside with my boys.
