2 Weekends Left to Enjoy the Renaissance Pleasure Faire

Let’s face it—most of us would happily trade a weekend of doomscrolling and errands for a sword, a crown, and a roasted turkey leg the size of our forearm. Good news: the Renaissance Pleasure Faire is back to grant your wish.

Running Saturdays and Sundays from April 5 through May 18, 2025, at the Santa Fe Dam Recreation Area in Irwindale, the original SoCal Ren Faire promises a full sensory escape from modern life. And yes, that includes a full-contact joust or three.

Turkey Legs, Chainmail, and Escape from Late-Stage Capitalism at the Renaissance Pleasure Faire

This is more than cosplay and codpieces. The Faire is a full-blown time warp, a lovingly crafted 16th-century village where Elizabeth I reigns, minstrels roam, and someone probably challenges you to a duel in the ale line. With over 12 performance stages and a couple hundred costumed characters sprinkled throughout the “town” of Deptford, it’s part improv theater, part immersive art, part giddy chaos.

“We’re not just putting on a show—we’re inviting you into it,” said (insert spokesperson name if desired). And you’d better come ready to play. Whether you’re haggling with merchants over hand-dyed tunics, joining a workshop on chainmail construction, or sipping mead with Shakespeare at a tea party, you’ll find yourself a participant, not a spectator.

The artisan marketplace is stacked with more than 170 vendors hawking everything from soap to swords. You can snag a leather corset, sample lavender honey, and commission a hand-forged dagger—then take a break with a bowl of vegan poke or that iconic, drippy turkey leg. (Seriously, bring napkins.)

And if you’re into themed tea parties—and let’s be honest, you should be—Deptford’s local celebs (the May Queen, a fairy godmother, maybe even the Bard himself) host whimsical afternoon gatherings complete with treats and theatrics.

Tickets are $44 for adults, $22 for kids 5–12, and free for the littlest time travelers. Afternoon tea is extra, but enchantment is included.

So if your idea of a good time involves mud, mead, and metaphorical escape portals, the Renaissance Pleasure Faire is calling. Toss on your best velvet cape, grab a goblet, and go get lost—in the best way. For details and tickets: renfair.com/socal
