School is out and summer can be a time when kids lose much of what they learned during the school year. The online program Revolution Math provides math tutoring that kids can do at home on their own schedule. Use code MomsLA at checkout and receive a FREE month of Revolution Math.

My son did a month of Revolution Math in 5th grade and it worked really well for him. Revolution Math is an online math tutoring program for kids in 2nd to 5th grade. I had been talking about getting a tutor for him, but it was hard with our busy schedule. Revolution Math is great because you do it online from your computer or tablet and you don’t have to deal with traffic.

Revolution Math is ideal for summer because so many people are traveling – both the families and the tutors – so you can schedule it at a time convenient for you. Classes are one hour once a week with the same instructor.

And that one hour a week could help kids from losing what they learned during the school year. Summer learning loss is real and according to the Brookings Institute, “(1) on average, students’ achievement scores declined over summer vacation by one month’s worth of school-year learning, (2) declines were sharper for math than for reading.” Anecdotally, I know that when my kids were in elementary school, their teachers spent a lot of time at the beginning of the year reviewing because many kids forgot.

Doing math work in the summer might sound like a drag, but the way Revolution Math does it, it’s actually fun! Kids are sent a learning kit that includes dice, a protractor, graph paper and character masks. The lessons are common core aligned and story-based so it’s fun for kids. Plus, kids make new friends in their online class. Kids have the same instructor for every class, which is capped at 4 kids.

My son’s instructor was lovely and did a great job of making it fun and keeping the kids on task. What I really liked about the online instructor is that I didn’t have to clean my house in anticipation of someone coming over and after our initial conversation I didn’t feel the need to chit chat with him. The best part was that my son enjoyed the program and learned a lot.

Many kids fall behind on math during the summer, which is why the online program Revolution Math is a great way for kids to keep up with learning (and retaining) from their own home. #summerslide #education #math
