If you’ve ever dreamed of biking down Central Avenue with zero honking cars in your path, surrounded instead by music, families, and the occasional roller-skater in a tutu—your dream becomes reality on Sunday, June 22.
CicLAvia is back with its 61st open streets event, and this time it’s taking over a stretch of South LA that doesn’t always get the glossy guidebook treatment: Historic South Central, Florence, Firestone, and Watts. From 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., 6.4 miles of city streets will go car-free, transforming into a lively, walkable, rollable “pop-up park” for all ages and abilities.

A Different Kind of LA Sunday Drive
At CicLAvia, you won’t find traffic jams or parking wars—just kids on scooters, abuelitas pushing strollers, teens in rhythm on rollerblades, and folks finally seeing their city at street-level speed. No starting line, no finish line, no entry fee. Just the freedom to show up anywhere along the route and take the day as it comes.
This stretch through South LA is one of CicLAvia’s most vibrant. The route hugs Central Avenue and lands in the heart of Watts, showcasing local shops, jazz history, cultural landmarks, and mural art you’d never notice from behind a windshield. As Executive Director Romel Pascual puts it, “South LA is always one of the highlights… It reminds us of what makes our city a remarkable and special place.”
Five Hubs, No Hurry
If you’re the kind of Angeleno who needs a plan, here’s your pro tip: make the most of the five hubs along the route. These are the epicenters of activity—offering water refills, bike parking, basic repair, restrooms, first aid, family programming, and a good excuse to take a break and soak it all in.
The hubs:
Historic South Central Hub (Central Ave, south of Washington Blvd)
Jazz Park Hub (41st Place & Central Ave)
Florence Firestone Hub (near 61st St)
Central Ave Hub (near E. 84th St)
Watts Hub (E. 103rd St & Success Ave)
Plus, free pedicab rides for tired legs—because inclusivity should never come with a price tag.
What’s Allowed (and What’s Not)
People-powered movement is the name of the game. So bring your sneakers, skateboards, or bikes (yes, even pedal-assist e-bikes, throttle off). Just leave the scooters, hoverboards, and motorcycles at home. Manual and motorized wheelchairs are welcome, as are anyone looking to slow down and connect with the city.
More Than a Sunday Funday
CicLAvia isn’t just a block party without cars. It’s a statement about what our streets could be—less dominated by traffic and more by people. It’s also a reminder that access to safe, open spaces shouldn’t be a luxury. Since 2010, CicLAvia has helped Angelenos rethink what it means to move through their neighborhoods, whether by bike, stroller, or stride.
And yes, it’s still fun. Really fun.
So mark your calendar:
