Tender Greens is one of my favorite spots to go to when I’m craving healthy salad or a paleo-esque meal. But I’ve never been able to get my boys to go there with me. They saw greens on the sign and insisted that it wasn’t for them. We went to a preview party for the new Tender Greens in Westwood Village last week and now they are hooked. We tried enough delicious things that I know it’s going to be on our short list for nights we go out to dinner.
Tender Greens, which opens today in Westwood Village, is a fine casual restaurant with big salads like Tuna Nicoise with grilled rare albacore, quail eggs, green beans and sherry vinaigrette, and Big Plates with proteins like marinated steak or chipotle chicken and vegetables. We had samples of the albacore (I’ve had it before on a salad) and it was flavorful and fresh. All of us said our favorite dish was the whole lamb that was cooked perfectly. It was being served with naan, tzatziki slaw and green chermoula. We had it without bread so it was gluten-free for my husband.
We liked everything we sampled including the cocktails (bottom right below). We also liked the lovely space. There was a communal table in one room with herbs and lettuce in the center. The other room had booths and lots of seating. It was very open with good lighting.
We ended the evening with Strauss Organic Soft Serve Ice Cream. If my boys don’t want to go back for the delicious meat and fish, they will definitely go back for the ice cream. I think it’s going to be very popular. It’s close to UCLA and right next door to simplethings sandwiches and pie shop. Parking is never easy in Westwood, but there are a few lots nearby and metered parking.
