The Albright Restaurant Review

My family and I had a terrific dinner at the Albright restaurant recently, which is located right on the Santa Monica Pier, so the meal comes with entertainment built right in. They specialize in seafood, and have been family-owned for two generations.

The atmosphere is friendly and casual, which is perfect for families or anyone just looking for a fun meal in a great spot, and the food is very good. My family sampled a variety of starter plates, like calamari, Ahi poke, onion rings and of course, some French fries. Everything was terrific and we enjoyed it all.

We also tried the clam chowder, which was delicious, and perfect for one of our California Winter days (or nights). Pro tip: ask for some bacon to sprinkle on top for some extra deliciousness.

The menu includes tacos and burgers, so you can plan to satisfy all appetites, but we were really in the mood for seafood, so our main dishes were: the lobster roll, shrimp Po’ Boy, whole fried Tilapia and Dungeness crab, and all were really terrific. The Po’ Boy comes with an Old Bay aoli sauce, the lobster roll has a nice, light mayo, and the Tilapia and crab are show-stoppers at the table, for sure.

They serve beer and wine, which is a nice way to accompany the meals, but the beauty of the Albright is that it doesn’t end up feeling like a bar; it feels very comfortable to have the whole family there.

Which is great, because the Santa Monica Pier is a place you should definitely take your kids. The iconic ferris wheel and amusement park, the famous Merry-Go-Round, the caricature painters, the people fishing off the side, the Route 66 memorabilia, and the people-watching all make the Pier a perfect place to take the family for fun. And knowing there’s a great place to eat makes it even better.

The Albright has been on the Santa Monica Pier for 35 years, and the torch recently passed from Mother to Daughter in the Kim family, bringing an updated look and feel to the place, but the same commitment to being a family-friendly restaurant and a mainstay of the Pier.
