What did I learn that changed my life? It was simple, but not something that happened overnight. Ashley worked with me and Sarah for the Make Better Challenge a few years ago. Sarah and I agreed to make a commitment to our health starting when our kids went back to school and through the end of the school year – that’s 9 months!
It was called “Make Better” and not “Shed Pounds” because it was about making us better; the goal wasn’t to lose weight, but to help make us feel better by guiding us to making better choices.
During that time, I learned tools I still use today. When I wake up in the morning, I really think about what I’m putting into my body, how much I’m moving during the day and how I’m feeling about life. In the morning, I try to think about what my day will look like.
The choices I make will have an impact on how I feel. If I have a bagel for breakfast, I’ll crash by mid morning and be tired and starving. I thought that the midmorning and afternoon happened to everyone and there was nothing I could do about it. But it was how my body was reacting to what I was eating. By working with Ashley I figured out that I was eating too much bread and sugar – actually, I learned that I was eating too much overall.
I lost 10 pounds working with Ashley and I’ve kept those off (of course 2 or three pounds come and go – the holidays!). And I feel like the quality of the food I eat has gone up. I really can’t say enough good things about working with Ashley!
