Things To Do in Los Angeles with Kids March 29-31, 2024

There are lots and lots of fun things to do with your kids this Easter weekend, March 29th – March 31st. Visit the LA Zoo for their Spring Fling Featuring Big Bunny, watch Oscar-Winning Animated Short Films at the Academy Museum of Motion Pictures, learn about reptiles at Cayton Children’s Museum, and more.

StoryWalk: Cougar Crossing

From Monday, March 25th through Saturday, March 30th, families are invited to participate in the LA Public Library’s first hike-and-read StoryWalk. “Stroll through Fern Dell’s historic trails while reading Cougar Crossing, a picture book about one of Los Angeles’ favorite pumas, P-22.” Afterwards, be sure to visit the Los Feliz Branch Library and let them know you visited the StoryWalk to receive a special prize.  

Wildlife Learning Center
Cayton Children’s Museum
Santa Monica Place – 3rd Level

Wildlife Learning Center will be at Cayton Children’s Museum on Friday, March 29th from 2:00 pm to 3:00 pm. Families will learn about reptiles and get to see some up-close, and they’ll learn about conservation and why it’s important to help protect the animal kingdom. Ticket information is available online. 

César Chávez Celebration
La Cañada Flintridge Library
4545 Oakwood Ave., La Cañada Flintridge, CA 91011

La Cañada Flintridge Library is hosting a César Chávez Celebration on Friday, March 29th from 3:30 pm to 4:30 pm. Children will learn about “César Chávez’s legacy as a civil rights advocate and farm labor leader.” Then, children will create a poster that “sends a peaceful message featuring something you care about.” All materials will be provided. Recommended for children ages 5-17. (Note – a similar event is also being held at El Monte Library at 10:30 am on Saturday, March 30th and at the Maywood César Chávez Library on Saturday, March 30th at 3:00 pm.)

Women’s History Month: Marble Run Roller Coaster

Stevenson Ranch Library invites families to a special Women’s History Month event happening on Friday, March 29th from 4:00 pm to 5:00 pm. Learn about women engineers and “construct and design a marble roller coaster and race them against your friends.” This event is for tweens and teens, ages 12-18. 

Spring Fling: an Egg-ceptional Celebration!
Los Angeles County Arboretum and Botanic Garden

The Arboretum is hosting its annual Spring Fling: an Egg-ceptional Celebration on Friday, March 29th from 5:00 pm to 8:00 pm. The fun includes seasonal crafts, egg scrambles (baskets will be provided), scavenger hunts, music, Bunny photo ops, and more. Tickets are limited; advance registration is required and available online. 

Dodgers Opening Weekend

Baseball season is here! Our LA Dodgers will be taking on the St. Louis Cardinals on Thursday, March 28th at 1:10 pm (Dodgers home opener), Friday, March 29th at 7:10 pm, Saturday, March 30th at 6:10 pm, and again on Sunday, March 31st at 4:10 pm. Spectators at Friday’s game will be be treated to a Drone Show and those at Saturday’s game will receive a Freddie Freeman Bobblehead. Tickets are available online. 

LA Spring Fair
La Prada Event Plaza – Whittier Narrows Park

The 44th LA Spring Fair, the “largest Spring Festival in Los Angeles County,” is back beginning on Friday, March 29th through Sunday, April 14th. You’ll find carnival rides, live music, games, a food court, local artisans, and more. On Saturday, March 30th and Easter Sunday, March 31st, photos with the Easter Bunny will be available from 2 pm to 6 pm, on a first-come, first-served basis. The Fair is closed on Mondays, Tuesdays, and Wednesdays. Open Thursdays (5 pm to 10 pm), Fridays (5 pm to 11 pm), Saturdays (2 pm to 11 pm), and Sundays (2 pm to 10 pm). Tickets are available online. Free parking.

Columbia Memorial Space Center is hosting Family Nite on Friday, March 29th from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm. Take advantage of free admission and explore the Center’s exhibits and displays. 

Spring Fling Featuring Big Bunny
Los Angeles Zoo and Botanical Gardens

The L.A. Zoo invites families to its Spring Fling Featuring Big Bunny event happening on Easter weekend, Friday, March 29th through Sunday, March 31st from 10:00 am to 4:00 pm each day. “Enjoy egg-citing entertainment and activities, fascinating education stations, springtime book readings, special animal feedings, and photos with Big Bunny (for an additional fee). Learn about pollinators, their role in the ecosystem, and what you can do to help them thrive with special performances, demos, and crafts that will inspire as well as entertain.” Ticket information is available online. 

Calm Morning: Queen of Katwe
Academy Museum of Motion Pictures

The Academy Museum of Motion Pictures invites families to its Calm Morning program on Saturday, March 30th. From 9:00 am to 10:00 am, families can explore the galleries on Level 3 “where sound and lighting adjustments will be made for a more sensory-friendly viewing experience.” Then, from 10:00 am to 11:00 am there is a Family Workshop planned, in which “families can illustrate themselves winning an Oscar, write their acceptance speech, and use our green screen to depict themselves in their future dream role or career.” And at 11:00 am, there will be an accessible screening of Queen of Katwe, with open captioning, a lower volume, and the theater will remain dimly lit. Tickets are available online. (The movie is rated PG.)

Children’s Storytime with Ty-Juana Taylor

Village Well Books & Coffee is hosting a special Children’s Storytime on Saturday, March 30th from 11:00 am to 12:00 pm. Local author Ty-Juana Taylor will be reading from her book, A Life of Song, which “teaches us about the incredible life of Ms. Ella Jenkins and all of her musical achievements.” 

Special Musical Storytime featuring The Pasadena Conservatory of Music 
Vroman’s Bookstore
695 E. Colorado Blvd., Pasadena, CA

Vroman’s Bookstore invites families to a Special Musical Storytime featuring The Pasadena Conservatory of Music on Saturday, March 30th at 11:00 am. “A bright red ribbon leads to a musical journey of imagination in this musical storytime.” Recommended for children aged 3-9, the morning includes Little Cloud by Eric Carle, crafts, creative movement and a mini-concert.

Women’s History Month: Think Like a Paleontologist

Visit Montebello Library on Saturday, March 30th from 2:00 pm to 3:00 pm for a special Women’s History Month event, Think Like a Paleontologist. Learn about different women in science and “practice thinking like a paleontologist by combining puzzle pieces to create a dinosaur or digging dinosaur bones.” Recommended for children ages 5-12. Advance registration is required as attendance is limited. 

Solar System and Eclipse Mobile
San Fernando Library
217 N. Maclay Ave., San Fernando, CA 91340

“In celebration of the upcoming solar eclipse on April 8, we’ll decorate a solar system mobile. We’ll even provide free solar eclipse glasses for you to take home.” This event is scheduled for Saturday, March 30th from 2:00 pm to 3:00 pm, and recommended for children ages 5-17. 

Family Matinee: Field of Dreams
New Beverly Cinema
7165 Beverly Blvd., Los Angeles, CA 90036

As part of its Family Matinee program, New Beverly Cinema is screening Field of Dreams on Saturday, March 30th and Sunday, March 31st at 2:00 pm each day. Perfect timing for the start of baseball season, the popular film stars Kevin Costner, James Earl Jones, Amy Madigan, and Ray Liotta. Tickets are available online. (The movie is rated PG.)

Weekend Short Cuts: Oscar-Winning Animated Short Films
Academy Museum of Motion Pictures

On Saturday, March 30h and Sunday, March 31st at 3:00 pm, the Academy Museum of Motion Pictures is screening Oscar-winning animated short films from the last ten years. Titles include Feast, Bear Story, Piper, Bao, and Hair Love. Advance ticket reservations are encouraged.
