If you’re looking for a weekend activity that’s equal parts creative and calming, this one’s worth bookmarking. The 2026 Crawfish Festival is happening this weekend on Friday, May 15th (5 pm to 10 pm), Saturday May 16th (2 pm to 10 pm), and Sunday, May 17th (12 pm to 8 pm). You’ll feel as if you’re in Louisiana at this festive event! Activities include live musical performances, dancing and Zydeco dance lessons, food (including “tons of fresh live crawfish prepared Louisiana style by an authentic master chef in the world’s largest crawfish pots” as well as a “wide selection of New Orleans’s most iconic dishes — frog legs, catfish, gumbo, jambalaya”), as well as a petting zoo, magic/illusion shows, carnival games, and more. Girls Sports Day is “a high-energy celebration of movement, mentorship, and fun” and designed for girls ages 9-18. Girls will have the chance to “explore a variety of sports — from soccer and basketball to skateboarding and dance — in a supportive, inclusive environment.” The event will include sports clinics, interactive games, inspiring speakers, wellness workshops, music, community partners, surprise guests, lunch, and lots of fun. Participate in painting a mural at Hesse Park, try out yoga at Ladera Linda, and join in some relay races and fitness challenges at Eastview Park. Get your tickets for Stars on Ice! The touring show will be at the Honda Center in Anaheim on Saturday, May 16th at 7:00 pm. The show features “one of the most decorated American teams in Winter Olympic history,” including Olympic Champion Alysa Liu, two-time World Champion and “Quad god” Ilia Malinin, Olympic Team Gold and Ice Dance Silver Medalists Madison Chock & Evan Bates, and more. The Natural History Museum’s 40th Annual Bug Fair will take place this weekend on Saturday, May 16th and Sunday, May 17th from 10:00 am to 5:00 pm each day. The popular event celebrates “our bug-eyed and multi-legged friends.” The Fair includes “up-close encounters with crawly creatures,” interactive activities (including arts and crafts), vendors and special exhibitors, screenings, puppet shows, and much more. Open House

Families are invited to the Pasadena Model Railroad Museum’s Open House on Saturday, May 16th (1 pm to 5 pm & 7 pm to 10 pm) and Sunday, May 17th (1 pm to 5 pm). PMRRM “operates one of the largest HO scale model railroads in the world, the 5000 square foot (70? x 72?) Sierra Pacific Lines.” If your kiddos are interested in trains, make a plan to visit. Cameras are welcome, and if you have them, binoculars are suggested. Suggested donation of $7 for adults, $2 for children, children under 7 are free. (Note – PMRRM is changing their Open House schedule in 2026, and instead of being open monthly, they will now host quarterly Open House events.)

Family Festival: Celebrating Photography & the Black Arts Movement

The free, daylong Family Festival is inspired by the exhibition Photography and the Black Arts Movement, 1955–1985. “Get ready to experience a vibrant lineup of live music, dance, storytelling, and interactive workshops honoring the creativity, culture, and community at the heart of the Black Arts Movement.” A schedule of the day’s events is available online. Family Science Sunday: Marine Mammal Researchers

Sunday, May 17th is Family Science Sunday at Marine Mammal Care Center (MMCC). This hands-on event gives families the opportunities to “embark on a captivating one-hour journey delving into ocean conservation, marine mammals, and beyond.” The event provides a full visitor experience including access to the interactive exhibit hall and the chance to view current patients at the Center. The topic for Sunday, May 17th is Marine Mammal Researchers. Families will learn about the research projects being managed by the Center’s veterinary team. “Families will discover how we conduct research at our facility, how we track our patients even after they return to the wild, and ways you can help support our research along the coast.” Reserve your tickets online.
