Students who sign up for multiple weeks may take all different courses, or repeat some of their favorites, since all our classes have a wealth of possible projects to complete. Our most popular courses are YouTube Workshop, Roblox 3D Game Design, and Minecraft Modding. Each day is balanced with a healthy mix of indoor and outdoor activities, including afternoon sports, snack break, and the ever-popular computer games of Network Game Time. There are always multiple activity options during these times to ensure all students find something they enjoy. At the end of each week, we hold an open house where students can show off their work and are recognized for their accomplishments.

Multiple locations around California: Santa Monica, Pasadena, LAX/Westchester, Beverly Hills, Encino, Berkeley, Irvine, Manhattan Beach, Fullerton, Marin, and Burbank.

Production Conservatory

Type: Acting, Day Camp

Description:

Three Summer Camps at Young Actors Space. Established in 1979, Young Actors Space is the Original and Premiere school in Los Angeles for young performers.

On-Camera Conservatory – June 24th – 28th – 10:00AM-2:00PM Daily – Ages 10-17 Cost: $650 ($200 deposit)

This 5 day program includes on-camera & audition technique as well as truth based improvisation and scene study. An original scene will be written specifically for each actor. They will be coached, rehearse and shoot the original scene in our professionally lit On-Camera Room. Actors will receive a personality slate and edited scene ready to send to agents, managers, and casting directors. (Limit: 20 students)

*Actor call-times will be scattered on Friday the 29th – students will be welcome to stay at the Space all day, but they will be assigned a specific time during the week.

Production Conservatory – July 8th – 21st – 10:00AM – 4:00PM Daily* – Ages 10-17 – Cost: $1,300 ($200 deposit)

Performances: Friday, July 19th @ 7pm – Saturday, July 20th @ 2pm & 7pm – Sunday, July 21st @ 2pm

*Does not meet on July 13th or 14th; times on performance days may vary

Our Production Conservatory is a fast paced camp where actors from all over the world help create an original production in ten days. This conservatory focuses on theatre technique and culminates in the premiere of a brand new play written specifically for the actors involved, which is performed four times in the YAS Theatre. (Limit: 20 students)

Youth Dialect Workshop – July 22nd – August 2nd (10 days) – 10:00AM – 1:00PM – Monday through Friday – Ages 12-17 Cost: $700 ($200 deposit)

This one-of-a-kind intensive gives young actors the tools they need to master any dialect they wish. Students will spend the first week learning the ins-and-outs the International Phonetic Alphabet (IPA). The second week students will learn how to use the IPA to teach themselves a dialect, using British Received Pronunciation as a basis. On the last day of class, students will be put on tape performing a scene using their newly learned British Dialect. Dialect study is an important but often overlooked facet of an actor’s education – give your young actor the upper hand on their journey!  (Limit: 12 students)

Project Scientist has a fun-filled program for your daughter this summer. Over the course of six weeks, girls ages 4-12 will participate in fun-filled experiments, exciting field trips to top science and technology companies, and interactive seminars with women thriving in the STEM field. They will learn about the science of crime, transportation, DNA, and more!

All Aboard! Transportation: Past, Present and Future – No matter the destination, we’ll tinker with different transit vehicles to get you there by air, space, road, water, and more! We’ll learn how transportation systems work together to keep us moving and tinker with tried and true vehicles to create new platforms for efficient mobility.

Coding & Gaming – Computer programming code runs the world. We’ll learn basic and advanced techniques for creating code for computers, video games and more using interactive platforms such as Roblox.

Genetics, DNA, and Dissection – What does a brain really look like? How does the circulatory system work? What determines eye color? We’ll spend the week dissecting and analyzing what makes each of us unique. We will study Gregor Mendel and his peas, Punnett squares/pedigrees and DNA all week long. Campers should feel comfortable with age appropriate dissections to attend this camp.

How It’s Made – Let’s get our hands dirty as we uncover how things are made! We’ll take apart and breakdown well-known and beloved items and gain appreciation for the processes and people who make them.

Robotics & AI – Join us as we dive into the world of AI through robotics. We’ll use various platforms to build models, use sensors and motors and configure behaviors to design our own robots. As our robots come to life, we’ll test our models with challenges fostering creativity and innovation.

Science of Crime – Real Life and Online – Become a forensics expert by solving both in person and online crimes through analyzing evidence. Digital crime is on the rise and we’ll learn how to protect ourselves and others through cybersecurity.

HOLLYWOOD TWO-WEEK SUMMER COMEDY CAMP (AGES 12-18)

This two week camp is for anyone who wants to learn a little bit more and produce a showcase. This is perfect for returning campers who want to experience different subjects and get better at old ones. New campers are also welcomed to join and dive right into comedy! Throughout the two weeks campers will rotate through five subjects:

Improv & Musical Improv – Explore the fundamentals of improv as taught and performed at The Second City. Develop skills like creative thinking, self-confidence, listening, brainstorming, team building, empathy, and communication, while having loads of fun and laughs. Also, learn to spontaneously put words to music.

Sketch Comedy – Learn the basics of sketch comedy scenes, the building blocks of any Second City show. Study classic Second City scenes, use improv to develop scenes, and create original sketches.

Stand-Up – Come develop your personal style as a stand-up comedian or storyteller as we focus on developing material, stage presence, and delivery. Our oldest campers may present their material in an optional open mic on the final Friday of two-week camps.

Clowning & Physical Comedy – Clowning is 50% physicality, 50% silliness, and 100% fun. Yes, that doesn’t make sense, but when it comes to clowning and comedy, it doesn’t need to! Kids will have the freedom of movement and self-expression in this class, while also learning about slapstick comedy and how to theatrically control their gestures.
