10 Things To Do In Eagle Rock With Kids

Eagle Rock is most likely a neighborhood you may have driven through, because it’s not that far from downtown Los Angeles and it’s between Glendale and Pasadena. You’ll find plenty of family-friendly things to do in this neighborhood, and along Colorado and Eagle Rock Boulevards, you’ll find a variety of shops and restaurants worth exploring. So the next time you’re in this neck of the woods, don’t just drive by.  Get out and enjoy!

Center for the Arts Eagle Rock

You’ll find a wide variety of live performances and cultural events at the Center for the Arts Eagle Rock. The Center is housed in a former library and is often rented out as a wedding venue. The Center is also hosting a Summer Arts Camp for children ages 6-12.  Children will have the opportunity to explore different art forms (visual, performance, writing, and more). Fosters Freeze

In business since 1946, Fosters Freeze is sometimes described as southern California’s first fast-food restaurant chain. You’ll find hamburgers, French fries, and of course, their famous soft-serve ice cream here (served in cones, smoothies, sundaes, and more). (Bonus — you can even print out a kid-friendly word search).

Eagle Rock Branch Library

The Eagle Rock Branch Library is a part of the Los Angeles Public Library System. At this branch you’ll find a variety of special activities including the “Children’s Bricks 4 Fun Club” where kids can create and build with the Library’s LEGOs, a book club, a “Tiny Tots Play Time and Story time,” and more. (Note – this branch is closed on Sundays).

Leanna Lin’s Wonderland

Leanna Lin’s Wonderland describes itself as a “playful gift shop and art gallery.” You’ll find a little bit of everything here, including items kids and adults will find charming and interesting. Whether you’re looking for jewelry, original art, books, stuffed animals, hair clips, or more, you’re sure to find something that catches your eye here. And if you’d like to make your own jewelry, you can in their “DIY Jewelry Studio;” it’s open whenever the shop is open, and no appointment is needed. Eagle Rock Recreation Center

There’s so much to do at the Eagle Rock Recreation Center. You’ll find a basketball court, two football fields, three baseball diamonds, a gym, two picnic areas and barbecues, tennis courts, and a children’s play area. They also offer a variety of classes, programs, and special events here as well.

All Star Lanes
4459 Eagle Rock Blvd., Los Angeles, CA 90041

At All Star Lanes you’ll find 22 bowling lanes, pool tables, and a video arcade. They also host birthday parties here as well. And, if you stay long enough, and start to get hungry, food choices include such favorites as pizza, chicken nuggets, salad, burgers, and fries. (Note, it is not one of the “fancier” bowling lanes in southern California, so some visitors complain the balls and shoes look a bit worn).

Peekaboo Playland

Open Play is held Monday through Friday at Peekaboo Playland. Kids, eight and younger, will have fun with slides, a ball pit, large building blocks, bouncer, and much more. There’s a special section for children two and younger. And, as an added bonus, adults will appreciate the complimentary coffee. They offer a variety of birthday party packages as well.

Eagle Rock Plaza

It’s one-stop-shopping at the Eagle Rock Plaza. You’ll find family favorites such as Target, Macy’s,  Chuck E. Cheese’s, and more. The Eagle Rock Plaza also hosts different seasonal events throughout the year, including Halloween-themed activities, Easter-themed activities, and more.

Ruby Bakery

You’ll be tempted at this popular local favorite.  Ruby Bakery creates a variety of special-occasion cakes and desserts. They’ve been in business since 1983 and are especially known for their strawberry cream cakes.

Bloom School of Music and Dance

Bloom School of Music and Dance offers a variety of music and dance lessons and programs for children as well as adults. Students are taught by university-trained instructors and have the opportunity to perform in different recitals and special performances. For the youngest family members, babies can participate in special Mommy/Daddy and me sessions. Additionally, the Bloom School offers a Summer Camp.
