8 Things To Do In (Or Near) Larchmont With Kids

Larchmont is one of those special neighborhoods within Los Angeles. You know you’re in the middle of a big city, yet you feel like you’re in a small town. And within this special community, there’s no shortage of family-friendly things to do.

Larchmont Village Shops
Larchmont Boulevard (between Beverly Blvd. and First Street), Los Angeles, CA

Spend some time strolling along Larchmont Boulevard, and you can fool yourself into thinking that you’re no longer in a big city, but instead, on a small town’s main street. You will find a variety of shops and restaurants; some are familiar names (such as Peet’s Coffee and Tea), but make sure to spend some time exploring the independent shops as well. Must-sees include Landis’ Labryrinth toy shop and Chevalier’s Books, LA’s oldest independent bookstore. In addition, Larchmont Village hosts a variety of special seasonal activities including a special Sidewalk Sale (in September) and a Family Fair (in October).

Larchmont Village Farmers’ Market
209 N. Larchmont Blvd., Los Angeles, CA 90024

Bring the kids to the Larchmont Village Farmers’ Market held each Sunday morning from 10:00 am to 2:00 pm. Vendors will be offering a variety of fruits and vegetables, flowers and plants, breads, prepared foods, candles, pastries, jewelry, and much more.

This “pocket park” is located close to Larchmont Village, and will give the kids the space they need to run around and play. You’ll find picnic tables and lots of shady areas so you can stay awhile. Kids will also enjoy the sandy play area. (No restrooms on site though).

Paramount Pictures Studio Tour
5515 Melrose Ave., Los Angeles, CA 90038

Just a short distance away from Larchmont Village is Paramount Pictures. Paramount Pictures is the “longest operating major studio in Hollywood.” Take the family, go on a tour, and get a behind-the-scenes look at how movies and television shows are made. Tours are at least 2 hours long and require all visitors to be at least 10 years old. More details are available online.

Art Works Studio and Classroom

Art Works Studio and Classroom offers a variety of classes and workshops for children and adults. Art Camps will also be held in the summer, and offer you the flexibility of signing up for individual days or the full week. You can also host your next party (birthday, shower, or other special occasion) here which will have your guests painting, sewing, sculpting, and more.

Hollywood Forever Cemetery
6000 Santa Monica Blvd., Los Angeles, CA 90038

Located on the back end of Paramount Studios, the Hollywood Forever Cemetery may be one of the most famous cemeteries in the world. The Cemetery was founded in 1899 and today is the final resting place for many Hollywood stars including Cecil B. DeMille, Griffith J. Griffith, and Hattie McDaniel to name a few. The Cemetery is also host to a variety of special events throughout the year.

John C. Fremont Library
6121 Melrose Ave., Los Angeles, CA 90038

Not far from Larchmont Village, you’ll find the John C. Fremont Branch Library. This branch offers a variety of child-friendly activities including special story times for babies and toddlers, seasonal activities (such as a Cinco de Mayo party), as well as the “BARK”program — where children can read to specially trained therapy dogs.

Snooknuk Cafe
506 N. Larchmont Blvd., Los Angeles, CA 90004

Snooknuk Performing Arts Cafe is a little bit of everything all under one roof. It’s an indoor playground as we as a performing arts studio offering a variety of classes. While kids are having fun playing, parents can enjoy the coffee and pastries sold on the premises. Classes include dance, music, theater, and more.
