Have you ever been to Hansen Dam? There are some amazing parks for kids and toddlers in Los Angeles, and we thought we’d tell you about some of our favorites. This week, we’re exploring Hansen Dam Recreation Center in Sylmar.
Hansen Dam has bathrooms and washing stations next to the playground. There are also acres of fields for picnics, parties, and pick up football/soccer games. In addition to the beautiful park, Hansen Dam Recreation Center has an aquatic center (volleyball court, water slide, fishing pond) and skate park. This is a wonderful place to bring your family in the summer months!

Play area:
There are three play areas, for kids in varying ages. Each playground has slides, jungle gym, swings, and more. It has everything for you and your family! The rubber surface is easy for little ones of all ages to run around without tripping!
Parking:
There is ample free parking in their lot across the way. This lot is shared with the Discovery Cube museum.
Where to grab a coffee or snack:
Next door to the park is Discovery Cube Museum. Inside of the museum (if you plan to also visit) is a small café for visitors. At the park, there are vendors that come with ice cream and snacks. Less than one mile away you can find El Milagro Bakery, 7 Eleven, and Panda Express. Other than those locations, I would recommend grabbing food/drinks before making your way to the park. Based on the location, it’s more difficult to just zip down the street for food and come back than other parks.
Vibe:
This park is very well maintained, there are tons of families at all times, and many of the guests are also going to/coming from the Discovery Cube museum. The layout and the playground is great for families of all ages to spend the day.
