Exploring Van Nuys Sherman Oaks Recreation Center

The Los Angeles area is filled with great parks that your kids will love to explore, but you may not have had the chance to visit them all. We want to help you find all of the great parks so we’re exploring parks from  the beach to downtown to the valley. This week, we visit Van Nuys Sherman Oaks Recreation Area.

Play area: 

The Van Nuys Sherman Oaks Recreation center is a Universal Access Playground, which means that “children of all abilities can play side-by-side.” There are two play areas, one for older kids and one for toddlers. Both playgrounds are well maintained, clean, open and in an enclosed space. Next to the playground are picnic tables that you can easily reserve for parties or fun lunches with friends & family.

Amenities:

Van Nuys Sherman Oaks Recreation Center is perfect for families, parties and groups of people who want to spend the day outdoors. There is a baseball diamond, soccer field, outdoor workout equipment, picnic tables, football fiend, indoor gym, tennis courts, volleyball courts, jogging path, pool, and playgrounds for both big and little kids.

Parking: 

There is free parking at the park or around the perimeter of the park.

Where to grab a coffee or snack:

The Van Nuys Sherman Oaks Recreation Center is located just off the freeway and easy to access for all park goers. The park is located down the street from Westfield Fashion Square Mall, Trader Joe’s, and many restaurants and coffee shops (southeast side). On the other side of the park (northwest side), there are a dozen coffee shops and eateries on Burbank Blvd and Van Nuys Blvd.

Vibe:

Van Nuys Sherman Oaks Recreation Center is the perfect place for families, groups, parties, and those looking to work out in the evenings. There is something here for everyone and very conveniently located in the heart of Sherman Oaks, right off the 101 freeway.
