the author and her family at Escape Hotel Hollywood
My family made it out of the Escape Hotel Hollywood Day Care Room with only 2 clues (and minutes to spare) – we are very proud!

Escape Hotel Hollywood

My family played the Day Care Room at Escape Hotel Hollywood (as their guests) and we were able to solve the puzzle – and Escape – after being given only two clues, which is a new record for us (although we did not make it to their leaderboard by a long shot).

Escape Hotel Hollywood is probably geared towards adults and families with older kids, and the day Care Room we played was a bit scary/creepy for sure, but all in good fun. You know your kids best and whether they would be scared or not. But it was a good puzzle and it was fun to solve it as a team. The other fun thing about Escape Hotel Hollywood is that it’s located right in the heart of Hollywood, so there’s tons to do and see nearby. Not to mention easy public parking just a block away.

What is an Escape Room?

An Escape Room is an adventure game, usually set in a “locked” room (but not always, and not really locked), designed to encourage team members to work together to solve puzzles, gather clues, and figure out a solution before time is up, which is usually one hour.

On the surface, you and your team are “locked in” to the room, but of course, if there were any reason you absolutely needed to get out, you could. You are always in contact with someone from the Escape Room company, sometimes in person and sometimes via walkie-talkie.

Most Escape Room companies have several rooms to choose from (and some have several locations as well), each with a theme or story, and some examples are: the Zombie Apocalypse, a Prison Cell, a Mythical Dungeon, a Space Station, or a Detective’s Office, to name but a few.

Some record Escape Times at Escape Hotel Hollywood

Not to worry if you don’t feel like you’re great at solving riddles, because there’s almost always a “helper” to gently nudge you toward the solution (without giving too much away). Trust me, even with hints, my family still wasn’t able to solve all the clues and “escape” from one of the rooms!

As you read about each of these Escape Rooms in Los Angeles, take a look at where they are located, whether they offer private or shared game experiences, whether there are age restrictions to that particular game, and what room themes they have. Then take a moment to click through to their website to get more info before you book. As noted, some of these games are family-friendly and some are not. My family has tried a couple of the Escape Room adventures here in Los Angeles, and we’ve really had fun, even if we didn’t always escape!

Some of these Escape Rooms offer Groupon discounts. If you purchase via our affiliate link, Groupon will pay us a small fee. Thank you for supporting this website!

The goal is simple. Live escape games simulate being locked in a room, filled with mysterious clues. Teams work against the clock, as they try to solve the puzzle before time runs out. The exercise is great for team building, and is sure to be an experience unlike any other. It’s not always scary. The genre is deeply rooted in horror, so many rooms tell stories that are intended to scare you. However, the event does not need to be frightening to be fun. Our success metric is laughter — not screams. Therefore, all of our storylines have an element of irreverent humor that will keep you entertained as you solve our puzzles.
