5 Things To Do In Or Around El Segundo

This post was sponsored by Hyatt House

The small town of El Segundo is nestled between the LAX and Manhattan Beach. It’s known for being home to the Chevron Oil Refinery, but also for it’s charming downtown, beautiful beach, and great shops and restaurants. This is the first of three posts about all there is to do in or around El Segundo.

MomsLA is your source for Things to do in Los Angeles With Kids.

Automobile Driving Museum

The Automobile Driving Museum in El Segundo is a must-see for classic car enthusiasts (or anyone who loves cool museums). It’s home to 150 vintage, antique, and muscle cars – some that were owned by historical figures including Errol Flynn and Eleanor Roosevelt. On Sundays, visitors can even take a ride in one of the cars.

Hang Gliding at Dockweiler Beach Hang Gliding Park

Looking for adventure? Take a lesson with Wind Sports Hang Gliding School at Dockweiler Beach Hang Gliding Park overlooking the ocean. You can take a mini 2-hour lesson or full day, 4-hour lesson where you hang glide 7 times! Pack a picnic and hang out at Dockweiler State Beach for the day.

The Lakes at El Segundo

There are plenty of golf courses in Southern California, but none as convenient or affordable as The Lakes at El Segundo. The 9-hole city course is a fun way to get in a round of golf or just hit a few balls while on your vacation. It’s a nice course to teach kids to golf as well.

Manhattan Beach Pier and Round House Aquarium

The Round House Aquarium, located at the end of the Manhattan Beach Pier, is free (with a suggested donation of $5) and serves as an Oceanographic teaching station with touch tanks and a kids’ area. There’s also a café to sip coffee while watching the gorgeous waves of Manhattan Beach. After the Pier, park your towel and enjoy the beautiful beach.

Stand Up Paddle Board or Kayaking in Marina Del Rey

The weather is almost always beautiful in Southern California and you’ll want to get to the water. One fun way to do that is to learn how to kayak – tandem or solo – or stand up paddle board in the calm waters of Marina Del Rey. It’s fun and the pictures will impress your friends. If you’re not ready for paddle boarding, make sure to check out Mother’s Beach, a shallow beach area that’s fun for families. Tip: Make sure and search for deals before you go. Kayaks can be rented for as low as $10 an hour during the off-season.
