Skiing and snowboarding are super fun winter sports that we can do within a couple of hours’ drive from LA, but if it’s not something we do all the time, we may not all be experts. In fact, it’s a great idea to find a place to take lessons, both for our kids and ourselves, so we can spend more time skiing and less time falling.

For kids, lessons help them feel more comfortable trying something new, and they can help parents feel more confident about spending the time and money to pursue a new sport or hobby. Read on to find the best ski lessons and snowboard lessons in Los Angeles (and SoCal).

“Your personal ski slope,” — the equipment at SkyTechSport lets you train to ski and snowboard in virtual reality, right in Hollywood. Used by members of the US Ski and Snowboarding teams, this method looks like it would be a ton of fun, whether or not you’re an elite athlete.

Virtual Snow Training Center

Founded by World Ski Champion Bob Salerno, Virtual Snow provides ski and snowboard instruction on snow simulators in a controlled indoor environment. They offer both ski and snowboard lessons and advanced training, year-round, for all levels and ages.

Mountain High Resort

Mountain High offers lessons for kids as young as 3 years old, as well as equipment rentals. Lessons must be booked in advance. Please check the website for availability and rules, as well as to sign all of the waivers.

Big Bear Mountain Resort
880 Summit Blvd., Big Bear Lake, CA 92315

Big Bear can tailor private lessons for kids of any age, but the bulk of their lessons are for kids ages 4 and up. They also offer adaptive lessons and, for the adventurous, they offer Night lessons!

Snow Valley Children’s Learning Center

Snow Valley offers lessons for kids as young as 4 years old, in both private and group settings. They have equipment rentals and offer adaptive lessons as well. Check their website for info on booking, rules, and waiver information.

Mammoth Mountain

Mammoth offers both private and group lessons for kids ages 3 and up, including adaptive lessons, and full or half-day options. They’ve got a great FAQ section on their site about how to get ready for lessons and what equipment you’ll need. Check it out ahead of time. Equipment rentals are available.
