The V Steam at Tikkun Spa in Santa Monica Review

The V Steam at Tikkun Spa in Santa Monica Review is a guest post, first published in 2012.

I don’t even know where to begin, except just blurt it out.  Today I got my “V” steamed.  Now that might sound crazy to you but it gets even sillier.  I was in a room with 3 other women and we chatted as our vaginas got special treatment.   I kind of knew the other women, so I guess that made it better.  It was a very hilarious, semi-bonding experience and I am sure that the next time we see each other we will know exactly where we saw each other last.  We were invited to the Tikkun Spa in Santa Monica to see what they had to offer.  I walked in a tad late and they were talking about treatments, specifically, the V Steam, which I had never heard of before.  When the woman next to me said, “it’s for your private area and we are all going to get one today.”  I thought she was kidding.  I actually said that out loud and she said, “Yes, we are getting them.”  I didn’t believe her.  But, in fact, it was true.

I have to say that it sounds a little more unusual than the experience truly was.  It was like being a human dumpling, steaming from below.  However, not only was my V benefitting, but also my whole body was being steamed and I was dripping with sweat.  Niki, the owner, said that some people even lose a few pounds during the 30 minutes that you sit there.  So, lose a few pounds and get a squeaky clean V, not a bad afternoon.  Here is how it worked.

It was a pretty basic set up and you might be able to do this at home if you have the desire to try it but not the guts to make the phone call with your kids listening in (Especially if you have teenagers).  First there is a gas bunsen burner which has a pot on it boiling Chinese herbs which include mug wart tea, a commonly accepted detoxifying herb.  Then there is a wooden seat with a hole in the center that you sit on.  Then you put on a huge plastic tent dress that goes over yourself and the seat.  Last, you crank up the heat and you are steaming your V for the next 30 minutes.

This steaming treatment stimulates the production of hormones to maintain uterine health, aids regular menstrual cycles, and helps correct digestive disorders while soothing the nervous system, they said.  We were told that this is an ancient ritual practiced for many years in Korea and in fact prostitutes do this every night after their trysts with multiple partners.  That was certainly a selling point I will leave out when I discuss this at parties.  Wait, what am I saying? I will not discuss this at parties, not that I am prude, but please, who wants to discuss my V at a party??

So, as I sat on the prostitute pot, I couldn’t help thinking that this could be something that I would consider doing on a regular basis.  They have a killer deal on the 6 pack – only $30 a session instead of the regular $50.  And you get to use the spa facilities for free with each session.  Seriously though, they do have a steam for reproductive health and for after childbirth.  So it is perfect for us mommies!  Plus I am sure more than a few hubby’s would appreciate a little lovin’ from your now finely coiffed coochy.

At the end of it all, I truly was impressed with the spa.  It was very clean and had a modern design. Plus they had super fluffy white towels and robes, which instantly put me at ease when I slipped one on.

You have to check it out.  And if you are so bold, invite a few girl friends to chat and have your V’s Steamed together.  I know I’ll be back for seconds.  And just as a side note…they have the A Steam for Men too.  I am sure you can guess what the “A” stands for, but I do not want to think about that.

First... you are hysterical and if I brave a semi-private V steam I want you there! Second, I have heard of this before and about Tikkun so I'm glad to hear someone I know is 'in the know' gives it a thumbs up... V steam and all!

Hi Sarah,

It is more like being in a private sauna that is under your "dress". It doesn't feel like a direct air stream, basically just super warm. I think the technology behind the steaming is to raise your bodies temperature and therefore kill bacteria and stimulate hormone production. The medical benefits are pretty amazing, especially for women who are battling infertility or who have recently given birth. The herb steam warms your womb and invigorates the circulation of the chi and blood. I was also told that it can help with yeast infections too. If you can get past the awkwardness to see the healing benefits, I think this is a fantastic treatment for women. Thanks for your comment.
