It’s so important to start dental care early, so finding a kids dentist is key. Many of us are nervous when it comes to visiting the dentist, and those feelings can start when we’re kids. Finding a pediatric dentist who can make your child feel comfortable while also keeping their smiles healthy is something we all want.
How to Find a Dentist
What would make a doctor the best dentist for kids? We think you should look for someone with patience, a sense of humor, an office staff that appreciates little ones and their energy, and an atmosphere of calm amidst the potential new experience for a kid.
Let’s face it, a visit to the dentist can be a little scary at first. Kids need to know that dental care can be fun and that the dentist is there to help. Tooth decay is no fun and we all want our kids to learn to brush and floss as soon as they can, baby teeth or permanent.

Dental Care for Healthy Smiles
Even the youngest kids can learn about good dental care habits. Starting with a super soft brush, teeth cleaning can be a fun, shared family activity on a daily basis. Playing music can help kids brush for at least 2 minutes, and don’t be afraid to use gamification to help entice kids to floss or brush longer: a sticker chart can work wonders.
“ …in order to prevent dental problems, your child should see a pediatric dentist when the first tooth appears, or no later than his/her first birthday.”

Tips for your child’s first visit to the dentist
As with any new experience for your child, the more fun you can make it for them, the better. Speak with the dentist’s office ahead of time, so you know what to expect and can let your child know, too. Plan a treat for your child whenever you visit the dentist, like a special little toy or sticker, or a trip to a favorite park afterwards, so they associate the dentist with fun.
Of course, the dentist will probably steer you away from a candy or sweet treats afterwards, but whatever you choose it will all help your child enjoy going to the dentist more.
