Lunch & Learn with Techlicious #CTALA

MomsLA recently co-hosted the #CTALA Techlicious Lunch & Learn, sponsored by the Consumer Technology Association, at Redbird in DTLA, and we, along with two dozen other local bloggers, learned all about the newest tech available to help busy moms like us get through the day with less stress.

The products on display included scheduling tools, cooking and cleaning tools, wearable tech, and even the Google Home and Cozi organizer, which every attendee got to take home as gifts.

These bags from Knomo are not only stylish, they let you incorporate tech into your life seamlessly. The Elektronista Clutch includes a 500mAh battery, and has space for just about everything the digital life demands – like a 10” tablet, smartphone, passport, USB sticks, credit cards, charging cables, headphones and much more. The Audley Fold Down Briefcase is a modern take on a classic handbag, but with extras, like a pocket with RFID blocking: essential for storing your phone, bank cards and passport to ensure you’re not prone to identity theft, and a padded laptop section which fits up to a 14-inch laptop.

Here’s an eye-opening statistic: according to the people at Tile, we can spend up to 10 minutes of our day looking for things like our keys. That seems like a big waste – and it could really add up. The Tile Pro aims to solve that problem, and attaching a tile to your keys allows the app to locate them for you. You can even tie the app into your Alexa or Google Home and simply ask them to find your keys. Now we’re talking.

The Honeywell Lyric C1 Wi-Fi Security Camera and Thermostat allow you to check on your home and set the temperature from a wifi-enabled device, like your smartphone, from anywhere. One of the Lunch & Learn attendees had a relative in Florida who’d used the Lyric camera to check on her home after she’d been forced to evacuate due to Hurricane Irma.

The Epson EcoTank printer is attractive on many levels, but the cartridge-free printing may be the coolest part. They say it has 2 years of ink in the box – enough to print up to 4,000 black/6,500 color pages, and equivalent to about 20 ink cartridges. Plus, it allows for wireless printing from anywhere via wifi from your smartphone or tablet.

The Google Home is a voice-activated speaker powered by the Google Assistant. All attendees were given a Google Home as a gift, and we’ve been playing with ours here. It takes just a few minutes to set up and it recognized my voice right away. It can perform hands-free searches and calls, and can tell you the weather, the news, or even jokes. Of course it can do much more than that, but we are just getting started learning about it.

Even without cameras that precisely map your floors and monitor your home, the LG Hom-Bot Turbo+ robotic vacuum would be my ideal vacuum cleaner because it does the work for me. But it also does all those other cool things, like giving you the power to start and monitor vacuuming from anywhere, while the HomeGuard™ feature even detects and alerts you to movement, sending images directly to your phone. Plus it’s super quiet while it works. Bonus!

We all wanted to try out the Anova Precision Cooker WI-FI because once it’s set up, you can start cooking from anywhere, monitor the status of your meal, and come home to dinner via wifi. Plus the Anova guarantees consistent results by using the Sous vide method of cooking, which seals food in an airtight bag and submerges it in a water bath at a low, set temperature. Food is evenly cooked, juicier and as a result retains more nutrients. The Anova Precision Cooker can even connect with your Amazon Alexa or Google Home, making it possibly the ultimate hands-free experience in the kitchen.

The HUAWEI Watch 2 combines the connectivity of a smartphone, the smarter living applications of a premium smartwatch, and the detailed performance coaching features of a sports tracking device – all in the form of a stylish classical wristwatch. With its integrated antenna and exceptional standalone 4G connectivity, the Watch 2 allows users to leave their phone behind while still staying connected. It also comes with 10 free weeks of Google Play music and a battery that lasts for up to two days with regular use, up to 10 hours in “training mode” and up to three weeks in “watch mode.”

HumX by Verizon is an aftermarket solution for consumers looking to modernize car connectivity.
