Saturday, August 25 – Movies on the Green – The Lorax

A 12-year-old boy searches for the one thing that will enable him to win the affection of the girl of his dreams. To find it he must discover the story of the Lorax, the grumpy yet charming creature who fights to protect his world.

Saturday, August 25 – Public Star Parties @ Griffith Observatory

Free public star parties are held monthly with the assistance of the Los Angeles Astronomical Society and the Los Angeles Sidewalk Astronomers at the Griffith Observatory from 2:00 p.m. to 9:45 p.m. They are a chance for the whole family to look at the sun, moon, visible planets, and other objects, to try out a variety of telescopes, and to talk to knowledgeable amateur astronomers about the sky and their equipment.

Please be aware that the astronomers and telescope demonstrators must cut off the line for each telescope to enable all viewing to be completed by 9:45 p.m. Hours for telescope operation are not the same as for the building (which closes at 10:00 p.m.).

Saturday, August 25 – Cardboard Yacht Regatta

Have you ever dreamed of setting sail across the waters in your very own yacht? Now you can build your own cardboard yacht and test its seaworthiness in a race across the Beach House Pool. At home, build a yacht from only corrugated cardboard and duct tape, decorate it, cross your fingers and hope you can make it to the other side on race day. Two people must be in the yacht during the race. All boats must be human-powered (no motors); oars/paddles are recommended. Fun awards will be given in a variety of categories and spectators are welcome. All ages are welcome to participate; children under age 8 must have someone 16 or over as their co-captain

Courtney Lewis and her family can usually be found on the kids party circuit. She’s the one chasing the kids dressed up as super heroes, pirates, star wars characters.
