According to the organization Feeding America, 1 in 6 Americans don’t have access to enough food and can skip many meals or go days without food. Groups around Los Angeles are making sure that one of those days is not Thanksgiving.
There are several locations in and around Los Angeles to donate your time and money to give families a good meal on Thanksgiving. Here are a few. Click on the links for more information.
Food on Foot in Hollywood is still looking for volunteers to help serve dinner from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. on Thanksgiving day. Volunteering requires a donation.
The Westside Food Bank is holding its First Annual Turkey Drive and hoping to collect enough money to buy 500 turkeys for those who can’t buy their own. Each Turkey is $15 and you can donate online or form a team to raise money.
Union Station Homeless Services Dinner-In-the-Park in Pasadena continues its tradition of feeding homeless and low-income families. It’s been called the “Biggest Potluck in the Nation” and in the past has served more 5,000 meals. Volunteers are needed during the event, but volunteers are especially needed for event preparation days before the event.
Westside Thanksgiving Community Dinner and Celebration in Santa Monica needs volunteers for Wednesday, Nov. 21 all day to help set up and also on Thanksgiving beginning at 6 a.m.
The Midnight Mission in downtown Los Angeles serves Thanksgiving dinner to 2,500 homeless or near homeless men and women and children every year. Volunteer positions for Thanksgiving are full at the Los Angeles Mission, but signs up for Christmas dinner begin on Dec. 3.
