Japan Family Day, Southern California’s biggest Japanese Spring Festival, is back again as part of the Tokyo City Cup at Santa Anita Park on Sunday, April 2nd, 2017.

The Japan Family Day is part of the $100,000 Grade III Tokyo City Cup race that brings together some of the top thoroughbreds in the nation. Did you know that Santa Anita Park is a sister thoroughbred racetrack of TCK Oi Racetrack in Japan? And that the Tokyo City Cup is the sole graded stakes race named for a major city outside of the United States? It sounds like it will be an exciting day. Gates open at Santa Anita at 10:30 a.m., with first post at 12:30 p.m.

The Tokyo City Cup and Japan Family Day is Sunday, April 2nd at Santa Anita Park.

Kids 17 and under get in free, plus there are free admission tickets available at www.tokyocitycup.comThe first 1,000 people will get a free Tokyo Race Cup t-shirt.

The Japan Family Day was started to celebrate Japanese culture in Southern California. The festival will have exhibits and activities featuring Karate, Sado (tea ceremony), Shodo (calligraphy), Kendo (Japanese swordsmanship), Origami (paper folding), Anime and stage shows like Min-yo (Japanese folk song), Sumo (Japanese-style wrestling), Ryukyu Buyo (Okinawa traditional dance), Tsugaru Shamisen (Three-stringed Japanese guitar), and Taiko (a special Japanese drum performance). There’s something for everyone!
