BookEnds, Scrabble & a Gala Giveaway #ScrabbleChallenge

BookEnds Logo

Calling all Scrabble Champs: BookEnds is holding its annual Gala Scrabble Challenge on March 7th and we’re giving away a ticket to the party!

BookEnds LogoBookEnds is a local Los Angeles non-profit, founded by an 8-year-old boy who wanted to help build a much-needed library for kids living at a transitional home for abused children. This young philanthropist organized a book drive with his school class, which is now the model for how BookEnds operates: Student Volunteers recycle gently-used children’s books and donate them to schools and groups where there aren’t enough. Their goal is to create readers and leaders.

Their annual fund-raising event is now nearly just as famous for the fierce Scrabble competition as for the amount of money they raise, and I know they don’t call it a Scrabble Challenge for nothing, although of course I’ve been assured it’s all in fun and for a good cause. But I say, be prepared to battle with words!

BookEnds Scrabble Challenge Fundraiser March 7, 2013But also be prepared to witness the committed supporters who want to see BookEnds succeed in their mission. And be prepared to help them, because that’s what a fund-raiser is all about. There will be a Silent Auction and a lovely dinner, and tickets for the evening are $100 each, or $175 for a team of two.

Please consider helping out this wonderful organization in any way you can. A monetary donation is always welcome, since every $1000 donated translates into $5000 worth of books on bookshelves. But you can also volunteer. Please check out their website for all the details.

BookEnds has always been about kids helping kids. But when it comes to fundraising, it’s about adults helping adults! Thank you for your support MomsLA – it does take a village, and in this case, it’s a village of word crazy, happiness loving grownups enjoying a fun night of food, shopping and friendly competition! We have casual or competitive categories to play in so there is something for everyone! See you there!
