Celebrity Cruises Reveal New Edge Class Ships
Intent on setting a new standard for luxury travel, Celebrity Cruises recently revealed the Celebrity Edge, a brand new class of ships, coming in Fall 2018.
The Celebrity Edge was designed completely in 3D, and the Cruise line tapped Interior Designer Kelly Hoppen MBE, Architect Tom Wright, and Designer Nate Berkus, who serves as Celebrity Edge’s Design Ambassador, to create a ship that defines what they are calling “a Modern Luxury Style.”
There are many innovations on the Celebrity Edge, one of which is the new Edge Stateroom with Infinite Veranda. This erases the boundaries between a traditional stateroom and its veranda, and creates a seamless space from the room’s door to the water’s edge. Guests will have open-air access to the sea, and will be able to customize multiple settings in the room, from temperature to lighting, even service.
The Edge will offer a new space, called the Retreat, which will feature a private pool, sundeck and lounge, including around-the-clock butler service.
The Celebrity Edge will also offer more suites than any other class of ship, including two Iconic Suites, located above the ship’s bridge. Measuring nearly 2600 square feet, these are two-bedroom, two-bath suites, each with panoramic windows and 700 square foot verandas.
There are also six split-level Edge Villas, with two-story views, private plunge pools and direct access to the Retreat sundeck. Finally, there are two Penthouse suites and 146 Sky Suites.
The Magic Carpet
What will surely have even causal observers talking about this ship, however, is the Magic Carpet, the world’s first-ever cantilevered, moveable ship deck. The Magic Carpet, which is the size of a tennis court, will be an engineering marvel, scaling all 16 decks of the ship throughout the day and evening.
When positioned next to Deck 16, the Magic Carpet is the ultimate specialty restaurant for a select 90 guests. Alongside Deck 14, the Magic Carpet is an expansion of the main pool area. Alongside Deck 5, it extends the ship’s specialty restaurants into an amazing al fresco dining experience, and at its lowest position alongside Deck 2, the Magic Carpet becomes a luxury embarkation station for the Edge Launches to whisk passengers ashore.
