Cirque Du Soleil’s Ovo at The Santa Monica Pier
For all Cirque Du Soleil’s French Canadian foreignness, they have become a Santa Monica tradition. It’s been almost 25 years since their first show here in 1987 and every year we look forward to seeing their blue and yellow tents go up next to the pier. This year’s show is Ovo.
Ovo is set in a bugs world. Where a stranger comes to town and misplaces his egg and finds love. All this set against juggling ants, flying butterflies, trampolining crickets and much more. Oh and did I mention the live cockroach band….
I recommend you don’t get seats to close to the stage. With Cirque Du Soleil shows there is so much going on onstage at any given moment, not to mention in the air. You want to be back a ways to avoid whip lash trying to see it all.
It’s a great show for a family outing or date night. I give it two antennas up.
Ovo runs from January 20th through March 20th with tickets ranging from $45 to $270. There are senior and student discounts as well as Family 4 pack deals.
Parking: You can park near the tent while space last for $10, or there is a shuttle running from a lot at 2300 Ocean Ave. The 2300 Ocean Ave lot costs $8 but you can get a permit for $6 online . The shuttle is included in the price of parking.
